WATERVILLE, ME - The Thomas College
Terriers were looking for their third straight North Atlantic Conference victory
as they hosted Lyndon State for a double header on Saturday afternoon.
Game one was scoreless until the third when Lyndon State got a
pair of runs off Thomas starter Payton Austin. In the fourth, the Hornets would
add two more after sophomore catcher Tyler Blake scored Andrew Robbins with his
second of three singles in the game. The Terriers would get one back in the bottom half when Dana Leland (Old Town,
ME) led off with his team leading third homerun of the season. Lyndon State
would take a 4-1 lead into the seventh when Tom Cameron (Jackson, ME) scored on
a ball hit by Danny Burke (New Haven, CT). That is all the Terriers would get as
they were tagged with a 4-2 loss in game one.
In game two, the Terriers responded early. After Burke led off
the game with a single and a stolen base, he would score on a ball hit to
centerfield by senior captain Jared Fieldsend (Somersworth, NH). Leland would
continue to add onto his daily hit total when he singled home Fieldsend to give
the Terriers a 2-0 lead after one. Lyndon State would score five times in the
second inning. Ben Clark led the attack for the Hornets as he hit a two run
double to score Zach Maerder and Jeremy Rocheleau.
The Terriers would get some offense started in the fourth to
tie the score at five. Nick Cloutier (Topsham, ME) led off the inning with a
walk and advanced to third on a double by Cameron. Burke would then single home
Cloutier to cut the lead within two. A double steal scored Cameron and Burke
then scored on a error by Lyndon State.
The attack did not stop in the fourth as the Terriers would
take the lead and never look back. After Leland led off the bottom of the fifth
with a walk, senior captain Nick Schauwecker (Yarmouth Port, MA) blasted a two
run homerun to give Thomas a 7-5 lead. Thomas would grab two more in the sixth
with a pair of doubles from Cameron and Fieldsend. Cameron scored on a sacrifice
fly from Costa and Fieldsend would score on Schauwecker's second hit of the
afternoon.
Freshman pitcher Tyler
Miles (Waldo, ME) pitched four and two thirds innings in relief for the
Terriers, allowing zero runs and retiring 13 of the 15 batters he faced. The
Terriers look to improve their conference record on Sunday when they take on
Lyndon State for their final two NAC games of the season.
