Thomas Soccer Falls to Fort Kent, 6-0

WATERVILLE, ME -- Alumni Field was the sight of today's contests as the Terriers of Thomas College hosted the University of Maine at Fort Kent (UMFK) Bengals on Saturday. This matchup was the second of the season for both the men's and women's programs here at Thomas; the men defeated SMCC in their first game by a score of 5-0, while the lady Terriers drew level with UMA, 1-1.

Going into today's games, Fort Kent was considered a heavy favorite, but that didn't stop the Terriers from going out and competing hard from start to finish. The women's team played first, and they were determined to give the visiting Bengals a run for their money. Right from the start, the Lady Terriers came out firing with seven shots on goal throughout the game: Terissa Ridge (2), Julie Lawrence (2), Vikki Devonshire (2), and Lauren Kief (1) all contributed to the offensive effort. On the other side of the ball, junior goalkeeper Jess Nassetta was kept busy all match, coming up with 9 saves. At the final whistle, however, it was Fort Kent on top-6-0.

For the men's soccer program, this matchup was to be a true test of athleticism and shot at redemption, as the Terriers fell to UMFK last season by a score of 5-0. Both teams in Saturday's second match hit the field with intensity, focus, and determination. Thomas goalkeepers James Leibowitz (senior, South China, ME) and Ethan Mongue (freshman, Saco, ME) combined for thirteen saves, while the rest of the team pushed to keep the ball on the offensive. Despite a tremendous effort from the Terriers, Fort Kent still came out with the victory. Final score was 6-0.

Thomas' next games are against the University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls, on Sunday, September 6 on Alumni Field in Waterville, ME. The Lady Terriers take to the field at 1pm, followed shortly thereafter by the men's team at 3pm.
