Thomas Women Draw Level with UMA

Alumni Field, Waterville, ME—The Lady Terriers soccer team put in a solid effort against the Moose of UMA, and ended the day in 1-1 draw. In this non-conference matchup, the first of the season for Thomas College, the ladies played host on Alumni Field in Waterville.

Their steady, possessive flow took no time to get going, as Augusta’s goalkeeper saw a total of eighteen shots over the course of the match, coming up with a total of 17 saves. Sophomore Terissa Ridge and senior Julia Nyitray led the Lady Terriers with 7 and 4 shots respectively. Other attacking contributions included: Stephanie Walsh (1 shot on goal), Molly Woodward (1), Jasmine Ryan (1), Jamie Lockett (2), and Julie Lawrence (3).

Amongst these nineteen shots on goal for Thomas College, Julia Nyitray came away with the only goal for the home side, and it came with just over 28 minutes left in the first half of play on a slow-rolling rebound at the top of the 18-yard box.

After halftime, Thomas came back out on the field with a one-goal lead and much of the same possessive, attacking attitude as they did in the first half. Not to be outdone, Augusta kept junior goalkeeper Jess Nassetta busy, firing off five shots: Jessica St. Amand (4) and Jessica Taylor (1).

As time ticked off the game clock, the Moose of UMA answered back as Jessica St. Amand scored an unassisted goal in the 84th minute of play. After regulation, the score was level at one goal apiece.  Through two periods of overtime, the two teams’ styles of play proved to negate one another, and the score remained in a deadlock, bringing tonight’s contest to a level end.

The Lady Terrier’s next match is at home on Alumni Field this Saturday, September 5th, against the University of Maine at Fort Kent. Kickoff is at 1pm.
