Thomas Golf Hosts Maine Intercollegiate Golf Championship
VASSALBORO, ME -- The Thomas College golf team hosted the Maine
Intercollegiate Golf Championship at Natanis Golf
Course in Vassalboro, ME on September 19th
and September 20th. The meet was a two
day tournament that featured 12 teams from
throughout the state of Maine. The schools that
participated in the event were Husson University,
Bowdoin College, Bates College, Colby College, the
University of New England, St. Joseph's College, the
University of Maine at Fort Kent, the University of
Maine at Presque Isle, the University of Maine at
Farmington, the University of Southern Maine,
Southern Maine Community College, and the hosting
school Thomas College. Husson University was able to
outstroke the rest of the schools on route to a
overall team victory.
After the first day of the tournament, Thomas was
in ninth place, but after day two they were able to
move up a notch into 8th place with an
overall team score of 721. The Terrier's best round
was by junior captain Steve Falco, who shot a 78 in
the second round of the tournament and cut 14
strokes off of his round one performance of 99.
Senior captain Tim Hartin led the Terriers in round
one with an 83 and shot an 85 in round two. Ken Roy
of the Terriers shot a 38 on the front 9 during
round two as the Terrier's number 5 golfer of the
tournament. Matt Dumais posted a round of 97 in
round 1 for the Terriers and Josh Colello shot a 99
in the first day of the match.
The University of New England's Anthony Guarini
had the most impressive shot of the tournament when
he aced the seventh hole during his second round.
The shot helped lead U.N.E to a 7th place
team finish in the Maine Intercollegiate Golf
Championship. The complete results are as follows:
Husson (625), Bowdoin (638), Bates (669), U.S.M.
(672), St. Joseph's (680), Colby (704), U.N.E.
(709), Thomas (721), U.M.F. (724), S.M.C.C. (726),
U.M.P.I. (772), U.M.F.K. (877).
The Terrier's next tournament will be on Tuesday,
September 23, 2008 when they will participate in the
St. Joseph's Queenan Memorial Tournament.
