Natilie West's Late Goal Gives Simmons 2-1 Victory
Over Thomas
Boston, Mass. - Senior Natalie West scored on a penalty stroke with 1:46 remaining in regulation to break a 1-1 tie and give Simmons College a 2-1 victory over Thomas College in North Atlantic Conference field hockey action on Saturday.
After a scoreless first half, Thomas (2-3, NAC 2-3) got on the board 1:35 into the second half. Junior Alyssa Audie sent a pass off a penalty corner to freshman Alexis Evans, who set the ball for freshman Kellie Martel to convert a shot from 10 yards out.
Simmons (2-6, NAC 1-2) tied the game with just over 10 minutes remaining as sophomore Jen Szkolt put home a rebound off a shot by freshman Austyn Joaquin. The Sharks, who snapped a six game losing skid with the win, were awarded a penalty stroke when a Thomas defender stopped a ball from going in the goal with her foot. West, who leads Simmons with a pair of goals this season, put the ball in the upper left-hand corner to give her team the lead and the victory.

Thomas Beats Elms
Thomas 2, Elms 1 CHICOPEE, MA, Sept. 22, 2007 - Elms College freshman forward
Courtney Gilmore (Mansfield, MA)
netted her first collegiate goal, but Thomas College junior forward
Amy Miles (Waldo, ME) tallied
twice to help lift the Terriers to a 2-1 win over the Blazers in Saturday
afternoon's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) field hockey game at Leary Field.
Thomas won its second conference game in as many days to
improve to 2-2, 2-1 NAC. Elms College lost its fourth
straight overall and fell to 1-7, 0-1 NAC.
Miles gave the Terriers a 1-0 lead just 5:19 into the
game off a deflection from a penalty corner.
Gilmore answered for the Blazers just 3:15 later to knot
the score at 1-1
Miles then scored what stood as the eventual game-winner
in the 22nd
minute as she broke free and blasted a shot past Elms
College junior goalkeeper
Katelyn Wasgatt (Worcester, MA).
Wasgatt finished with five saves for the Blazers, who
outshot the Terriers 9-7September 21, 2007
Thomas beats Becker
Thomas 1, Becker 0
The Thomas Women's Field Hockey Team (1-2) beat
Becker College's Field Hockey Team ( 1-0, at Becker
College (1-6). Thomas and Becker went into double
overtime to decide the winner. Thomas finally broke
through when Britney Oxley score the lone and game
winning goal on a penalty stroke.
Thomas will next play Elms College, Saturday,
September 22 at Elms College

Thomas Falls to Husson

WATERVILLE, September 18— Thomas College’s Women’s Field
Hockey Team(0-2-0)
lost to Husson College’s Women’s Field Hockey Team
(2-2-0) 3-1, at the Alumni Field. Husson College’s
Michelle Bardon led off the scoring, when she scored
12:15 in the first half. Thomas’ Alyssa Audie answered
with a goal of her own at 6:35 in the first half. Husson
recaptured the lead when Elisha Dorso scored with a
minute left in the first half. Husson then put the game
out of reach behind Erica Dorso’s goal to make the score
three to one.
Thomas’ goal keeper Drielle Mitchell kept the game close
by making 11 saves on 21 shots. Husson College’s goal
keeper Kelly Boccino slowed down Thomas’s offense by
making one save on four shots.
Thomas will next play Becker College, September 21, at
Becker College at 4:00p.m.

Field Hockey Rolls by Thomas
Thomas 5, UMF 0
Farmington-- Amanda Fortin (Jefferson, ME) scored
two goals and assisted on another as the University of
Maine at Farmington field hockey team cruised to a 5-0
win over Thomas College today at Prescott Field.
Andrea Tyler (Augusta, ME), Kristin Chambers (Gorham,
ME), and Hattie Agnew (Guilford, ME) each tallied a goal
for the Beavers (1-1), who are slated to take on ST.
Joseph's at home on Tuesday. Ashley Wentworth (North
Berwick, ME) and Emma Deans (Gorham, ME) each assisted
on a score as UMF out shot Thomas 22-2.
Kaeleigh Baker (Chicester, NH) made two saves for the
Beavers over 59:38 before giving way to Emily Theriault
(Wells, ME) to close.
Drielle Mitchell stopped 17 shots for the Terriers, who
fell to 0-1.
Thomas wins close one against UMaine-Fort Kent

Fort Kent, September 2, 2007- The Thomas Men’s Soccer
Team (2-0-0) beat the University of Maine at Fort
Kent (1-1-0) 2-0 at the University of Maine at Fort
Kent. Thomas came out and scored ten minutes into the
first half. Thomas Junior Tim Costa scored the goal that
was assisted by freshman Matt Mitchell. Fort Kent
answered right back with a goal of their own with eight
minutes left in the first half. Thomas came back in the
second half and took the lead for good when junior Tim
Costa scored his second goal of the game assisted by
senior Tyler Simpson.Thomas was able to keep the lead
and win the game through the strong defensive play of
freshman Ryan Hamm and senior Chris Vashon. Senior goal
keeper Russell Beckwith also kept Fort Kent off the
score board by making six saves in the game.
Thomas now has won their first two games of the season.
In looking at Thomas, who has not won a game before this
weekend in the past two seasons hope they build on this
success and show that they are far more improved this
season.
Thomas College will next play the University of Southern
Maine on Wednesday, September 5 at the University of
Southern Maine.
Although giving up a late first half goal the Terriers
responded with an early second half tally and then held
on for the victory to advance their record to 2-0-0.
Thomas wins first game in three years

Fort Kent, September 1- The Thomas College Men’s Soccer
Team won their first game in three seasons. Thomas
College (1-0-0) beat University of Maine at Presque Isle
(0-1-0) 2-0 at the University of Maine at Fort Kent.
Junior Tim Costa led off the scoring for Thomas with a
goal at 12:43 in the first half. The goal was assisted
by freshman by Robin Rojek. Thomas then scored an
insurance goal in the second half when freshman Cory
Underwood scored, assisted by sophomore Jim Grant.
Thomas earned the shutout with great defensive play from
senior Tyler Simpson and Sophomore Tom Desjardins. Goal
keeper Russell Beckwith saw seven shots and made two
saves in getting the first shutout of the season. Thomas
earned their first win three years under new coach Ed
Thomas. Ed Thomas took over as head coach of the men’s
soccer team this season at Thomas College. Coach Thomas
hopes to continue the team’s success through the up
coming season.
Thomas College next plays University of Maine at Fort
Kent on Sunday, September 2 at the University at Fort
Kent.
