Castleton earns split in tri-match with 3-0 win over Thomas College
Castleton, VT-The Castleton State College women's volleyball team took home its
first conference victory of the season, defeating Thomas College 3-0. The
Spartans dispatched their guests 30-24, 30-13 and 30-22 to earn the victory.
Jamie Lemieux had a monster match, tallying 25 kills and seven aces. Erika
Tintle added 11 kills. Alyssa Fortier and Sami Grisso each had did an excellent
job from their setter positions tallying 14 and 16 assists respectively.

Thomas Loses Two

WATERVILLE, September 20— In the first of two games, Thomas College’s Women’s
Volleyball Team (0-6) lost to Becker College’s Women’s Volleyball (4-4) Team
3-0, at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium. Thomas lost the three games to Becker College with the scores of 30-11, 30-22,
and 30-27.
In the second game, Thomas College’s Women’s Volleyball (0-6) Team lost to
Husson College Women’s Volleyball (8-4) Team 3-0. Thomas lost the three games
to Husson College with the scores of 30-13, 30-13, and 30-17.
Thomas will next play St. Joseph (VT) on Sunday, September 22, at 11:00 a.m. at
Larry Mahaney Gymnasium.

WATERVILLE, September 19— Thomas College’s Women’s Volleyball (0-5) Team lost to
the University of Maine at Farmington (3-6) 3-0, at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium.Thomas lost the three games to the University of Maine at Farmington with the
scores of 30-19, 30-19, 30-22.
Candace Halsing led Thomas with 2 kills, 3 assists, 4 aces, and 22 digs in a
losing effort.
Thomas will next play the Becker College on Saturday, September 22, at 11:00
a.m. at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium.
Lady Mariner Volleyball wins 2 NAC matches
Castine,
Maine- The Lady Mariner Volleyball team hosted two north athlantic conference
opponents Thomas College and UMaine Farmignton. In the first match the Lady
Mariners beat Thomas College by the score of 3-0 (30-11, 30-12, 30-10). Amy
Young (Cumberland, ME) with the with 8 kills and 7 aces. Michelle Ferry
(Princeton, ME) added 5 kills, 18 digs, and 8 aces, and Becca Allen (Bucksport
ME) had 17 assists. Kristi Gordan (Auburn, ME) and Nicole St.Pierre (Bailyville,
ME) added 5 kills a piece for the lady mariners.
In the second match of the day, the Beavers of Umaine Farmington defeated the
Terriers from Thomas by the score of 3-0 (30-17, 30-12, 30-16). The win moved
the to 2-5(1-0) on the season and the terriers dropped to 0-4(0-2), Danielle
O'Brein had 13 kills and 3 aces while Katie Allen had 12 assists, 3 kills and 2
digs in the match.

Thomas Women's Volleyball Team lost
to University of Maine at Machias 3-0, at Machias.
Thomas was very competitive, but came up short and lost
the match 3-0. Thomas College with next play Maine
Maritime Academy, September 15, at Maine Maritime
Academy.

September 5, 2007- Thomas College's Women's Volleyball
Team lost to Unity College's Women's Volleyball Team
3-2, at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium Wednesday evening.
Thomas lost the first two games 30-16 and 30-23,
respectfully. Thomas then made a thrilling comeback and
won games three and four, 30-14 and 30-26. In the final
game, They came up short against Unity, 15-13.Thomas
will next face the University of Maine at Machias on
Wednesday, September 12, in Machias.
Thomas wins close one against UMaine-Fort Kent

Fort Kent, September 2, 2007- The Thomas Men’s Soccer Team
(2-0-0) beat the University of Maine at Fort Kent
(1-1-0) 2-0 at the University of Maine at Fort Kent.
Thomas came out and scored ten minutes into the first
half. Thomas Junior Tim Costa scored the goal that was
assisted by freshman Matt Mitchell. Fort Kent answered
right back with a goal of their own with eight minutes
left in the first half. Thomas came back in the second
half and took the lead for good when junior Tim Costa
scored his second goal of the game assisted by senior
Tyler Simpson.Thomas was able to keep the lead and win the game
through the strong defensive play of freshman Ryan Hamm
and senior Chris Vashon. Senior goal keeper Russell
Beckwith also kept Fort Kent off the score board by
making six saves in the game.
Thomas now has won their first two games of the season.
In looking at Thomas, who has not won a game before this
weekend in the past two seasons hope they build on this
success and show that they are far more improved this
season.
Thomas College will next play the University of
Southern Maine on Wednesday, September 5 at the
University of Southern Maine.
Although giving up a late first half goal the Terriers responded
with an early second half tally and then held on for the
victory to advance their record to 2-0-0.
Thomas wins first game in three years

Fort Kent, September 1- The Thomas College Men’s Soccer Team
won their first game in three seasons. Thomas College
(1-0-0) beat University of Maine at Presque Isle (0-1-0)
2-0 at the University of Maine at Fort Kent. Junior Tim
Costa led off the scoring for Thomas with a goal at
12:43 in the first half. The goal was assisted by
freshman by Robin Rojek. Thomas then scored an insurance
goal in the second half when freshman Cory Underwood
scored, assisted by sophomore Jim Grant.Thomas earned the shutout with great defensive play
from senior Tyler Simpson and Sophomore Tom Desjardins.
Goal keeper Russell Beckwith saw seven shots and made
two saves in getting the first shutout of the season.
Thomas earned their first win three years under new
coach Ed Thomas. Ed Thomas took over as head coach of
the men’s soccer team this season at Thomas College.
Coach Thomas hopes to continue the team’s success
through the up coming season.
Thomas College next plays University of Maine at Fort
Kent on Sunday, September 2 at the University at Fort
Kent.
