Thomas Splits with UMF
Thomas 0, UMF 3; Thomas 4, UMF 3

Waterville, Me -- In a battle of unbeatens in softball in the North Atlantic Conference, the University of Maine at Farmington and Thomas College each came away with a blemish as the two teams split a doubleheader today with the Beavers winning the opener 3-0 and the Terriers taking game two 4-3.

The Beavers stand at 15-3 (9-1 in the NAC) and are scheduled to visit Husson College on Wednesday. The Terriers (16-9, 13-1) are slated to host Maine Maritime Academy on Wednesday.

In the opener, the Beavers capitalized on five Thomas errors to snatch the victory from the Terriers.

Lauren Overlock (Belfast, ME) led off the Beavers' at-bats with a single. With a 3-2 count, Overlock took off for second base as Sarah Defilipp (Brewer, ME) drew a walk. The Thomas catcher threw down to second and the ball sailed into the outfield. The subsequent return throw to third ended up into the Thomas dugout and Overlock made her way home. Defilipp, who had reached third, later scored on a wild pitch for a 2-0 advantage for the Beavers.

Farmington padded the lead to 3-0 in the second when McKell Barnes scored on a wild pitch. Barnes had doubled off the right field fence.

Defilipp went the distance to improve to 7-0 for the Beavers. The junior scattered eight hits with one walk and five strikeouts in a complete game. The Terriers threatened with the bases loaded in the sixth, but Defilipp got a strikeout and a groundout to end the bid.

Barnes doubled in the win, while Overlock, Kelly McDonough (Windham, ME) and Breanna Conners (Madison, ME) each singled.

Nicole Smith took the loss in the complete game with three walks and no strikeouts. Only one of the Farmington runs was earned.

Jen Higgins singled twice for the Terriers with Brittany Oxley adding a double.

In the second contest, Mallorie Blakney tripled home two runs, Brittany Oxley clubbed an RBI double and Smith stymied the Beavers as Thomas earned the split.

Oxley finished the game with a pair of singles and the aforementioned double, while Blakney singled and tripled.

Smith struck out one in the complete game.

Liz Bergeron (Milford, ME) fell to 6-1 after taking the loss with five innings pitched, eight hits allowed, one walk and two strikeouts.

Defilipp singled and doubled in the loss.

The Terriers will host Maine Maritime tomorrow April 23 in an NAC Double-Header. Game 1 starts at 3:00 pm.
