Thomas Student-Athletes Recognized
NAC All-Conference Selections Announced

Waterville, Maine -- The North Atlantic Conference - Women's and Men's Basketball All-conference teams for the 2007-08 season were announced on Friday.

Thomas College had two student-athletes recognized for their season long sustained superior performance.  The selections were made by the Women's and Men's Basketball Coaches from the North Atlantic Conference for their respective sport.

Senior, Forward, Lea McNary from Marlborough, Connecticut was a 3rd Team All-Conference selection.  Lea led the Terriers in eight statistical categories this season.   Two of those categories were scoring and rebounding, scoring 10.8 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.

First-year, Guard, Andrew Duncanson, Portland, Maine earned NAC Rookie of the Year honors. Duncanson led all conference first-year players in scoring.  Andrew averaged 17.5 points per conference game and adding 3.77 assists ranking him sixth in the conference in both categories. Andrew Duncanson was among the league leaders in steals (2.00 per game), three-point field goal percentage (44.4%) and assist to turnover ratio.

Thomas Loses in Heartbreaker to Lesley

Waterville, Maine-- The Thomas College men's basketball team (9-16; 2-11 NAC) played a hard fought game against Lesley University (9-15; 7-5 NAC), but lost in Overtime by the score of 87-8;1 Friday Evening at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium at Thomas College.

Thomas was leading the game at the half with a score of 45-39, but in the second half Lesley came out very aggressive and lost the lead. Thomas held their own and were able to comeback and put the game into overtime. Lesley continued their aggressive style shooting 62.5% from the floor and 50% from beyond the arc and shot 75% from the foul line in Overtime.

Thomas' Andrew Duncanson (Westbrook, Maine) lead the way for the terriers with 24 points, 6 assists, while shooting 50% from beyond the arc and 100% from the line. Isaiah Barthwaite (Farmington, ME) contributed in the points category with 18 points of his own while leading the team in rebounds with 8 and steals with 3, Michael Burchill (Saco, ME)  added 15 points and Darrell Alexander (Fairfield, TX) added 10 as well. Damien Staples (South China, ME) collected 7 rebounds and lead the team in blocks with 2.

Lesley was lead by Mark Stevens (Las Vegas, NV) who had a game high 29 points shooting 11-16 from the field and 5-6 from the foul line. Also contributing were Jon Cruz (Haverhill, MA) who added 15 points Joseph Chatman (Boston, MA) with 13 and Malcolm Andrews with 12 (Medford, MA). Chatman also had a game high 9 assists. Jesus Trejo (Methuen, MA) lead all player with 10 rebounds.

Thomas' Offense Struggles vs UMF

Waterville, Maine -- The Thomas College men's basketball team (9-14; 2-9 NAC) struggled to get any offense going against conference opponent, the University of Maine at Farmington (11-12; 7-4 NAC), as they fell by the score of 79-43 Saturday afternoon at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium at Thomas College.

Thomas trailed by the score of 36-16 at halftime, and the second half didn't prove to be any better as UMF ran away with the North Atlantic Conference match-up win. UMF shot a stunning 59.6% from the field (28-47) and 50% from beyond the arc (10-20) on way to victory.

Thomas' Andrew Duncanson (Westbrook, Maine) provided the only offense for the Terriers in the first half, scoring 14 of their 16 points. He finished the game with 21 points.

UMF spread the wealth as every player except three recorded a point during the contest and only two players reached double-digit scoring. Isaac Hutchinson (Oakland, Maine) led his team with 11 points as teammate Patrick Howell (Nobleboro, Maine) scored 10 off the bench.

Thomas' next game will be at Husson College in another NAC match-up on Tuesday, February 19, at 7:30 pm.

Thomas Cruises Past UMPI

Waterville, Maine -- Led by the three-point shooting of Michael Burchill (Saco, Maine), the Thomas College men's basketball team (9-13) defeated the University of Maine at Presque Isle (3-15) by the score of 83-56 on Tuesday night at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium in Waterville, Maine.

Leading by the score of 46-21 at halftime, Thomas never let up on UMPI as they shot nearly 40% from beyond the arc (39.3%). Burchill contributed seven of the trey balls on way to his game-high 29 points, 18 in the first half. Teammate Andrew Duncanson (Westbrook, Maine) contributed a double-double with his 17 points and 10 rebounds. Good ball movement was a part of the Terrier offense all game, as they recorded an impressive 21 assists as a team. Darrell Alexander (Fairfield, Texas) was responsible for six of those assists while netting 10 points. Colin Kennedy (Belfast, Maine) also saw double-digits with his 10 points. Michael Ross (York, Maine) played well off the bench and grabbed seven rebounds and dished out four assists.

Bright spots from the UMPI offense included 12 points from both Michael Latchford (Stirling, Ontario, Canada) and Carlosito Malave (Gardner, Massachusetts). Mihku Sabattus (Princeton, Maine) led the game with 12 rebounds. Latchford also grabbed double-digit boards with 10.

Thomas' next game will host an NAC contest against the University of Maine at Farmington on Saturday, February 16, at 3:00 pm.

Thomas Splits with Lesley
Men- Thomas 34, Lesley 71
Women- Thomas 79, Lesley 62

Cambridge, Massachusetts -- Lesley University played a North Atlantic Conference double-header with Thomas College on Saturday afternoon and split the series with the Terriers.  The men defeated Thomas 71-34 while the women lost 79-62.

In the men's game, the Lynx saw contributions from several different players and maintained stifling defense against the Terriers.  James Parker (Sandwich, Mass.) led the Lynx with a game-high 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting beyond the arc while Jesus Trejo (Methuen, Mass.), Jermaine Harris (Methuen, Mass.), and Mark Stevens (Las Vegas, Nev.) had 13, 10, and 10 points respectively.  Trejo completed a double-double as he grabbed 13 rebounds.

Lesley scored 34 points off of 30 Thomas turnovers in the game.  The Lynx were also able to maintain a presence in the paint as they outscored the Terriers 42-6 in that category. 

Thomas was led by Isaiah Brathwaite (Farmington, Me.) who had seven points and six rebounds in the game.  Andrew Duncanson (Portland, Me.) had six points in the game, but had seven turnovers.

In the women's game, Lesley struggled to get their offense going in the first half as they found themselves down 38-25 going into the locker room. 

In the second half, the Lynx were able to get themselves back on track offensively as they were led by senior Courtnie Leakeas (Lowell, Mass.) who finished with 23 points on 8-of-18 from the floor.  Lesley also had a big performance from freshman Cassidy Freed (Brattleboro, Vt.) who had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. 

Despite playing better in the second half, the Lynx could not catch up with the Terriers offensive.  Thomas had four players in double-figures including Karen Demers (Sanford, Me.), Cortney Barrett (Monmouth, Me.), Lea McNary (Marlborough, Conn.) and Amy Miles (Waldo, Me.) who had 16, 15, 15, and 14 points, respectively.  Barrett had a double-double as she grabbed 12 rebounds in the game.

Thomas Beats Wheelock
Thomas 71, Wheelock 58

Waterville, ME -- The Thomas College Men's basketball team beat Wheelock College on Friday night by the score of 71-58 at Wheelock College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.

Thomas was led by Andrew Duncanson who netted 25 points on way to victory. Teammates Isaiah Brathwaite and Michael Burchill also reached double-digit scoring with 10 points apiece. Damien Staples led the team in rebounds with 10. Duncanson also dished out four assists.

Wheelock was led by Sherard Williams who recorded a double-double with his 24 points and 15 rebounds while shooting 9-13 from the field and 6-6 from the free throw line. Jarred Lynch scored 15 points in a losing effort.

Thomas' next game is Saturday, February 9, at Lesley College at 4:00 pm.
