How to Change Olympus Recordings into Streaming Audio Format

  1. Connect Olympus digital recorder to computer’s serial port with supplied cable.
  2. Open start/programs/Olympus DSS Player/Olympus DSS Player application.
  3. Click on desired recording or select all recordings, then click the download button on the toolbar.
  4. Save the .dss file into .wav format by going file/save as and changing save file format. Also, remember the directory where you saved the downloaded file. The file will act as though it is playing, but it is saving it so you may have to wait a minute.
  5. After file is saved, close Olympus DSS player application and open start/programs/windows media/windows media encoder application.
  6. Click ok after selecting quick start
  7. Select 6.5 streaming audio for template format
  8. Click on the encode menu on the top and select properties
  9. Click on the input tab and select AVI/WAV/MP3 file, then type or browse to the location of the saved .wav file. Click Apply
  10. Then check the output tab and uncheck the box that says "to windows media server over the network," and check to local ASF file.
  11. You will need to put in a file name and location for this ASF file so remember where and what you saved it as (it doesn’t have to be the same name as the .wav file). Click Apply.
  12. Click on OK and the box will disappear. Then click on the play button to start encoding the .wav file as an .asf file. The amount of time it takes to encode the file will depend on the length of the file and the speed of your computer, so you may have to wait a little while.
