Job Title:        Sales & Communications Intern

 

Report to:       Director of Communications

 

Position Summary:

The sales and communications intern is responsible selling advertising for the Thomas Magazine, a three-times-per-year publication with a nationwide circulation of 7,300. S/he will be responsible for researching and preparing a demographics sheet for the magazine’s circulation, rate card and a vendor list of possible businesses to solicit. The intern will conduct phone and in-person advertising sales calls for the magazine. S/he will be the conduit between the business and the advertising layout and design. S/he is also responsible for assembling and/or compiling the layout of the ads.

 

The secondary responsibility of the intern will be to assist in the writing and editing of stories for the Thomas Magazine as issued by the director of communications. S/he may also draft press releases for the regional and national media. The intern will possess excellent written and oral communication skills, strong writing abilities, and organizational skills. The student will be a self-starter, able to write, edit and use multiple forms of media creatively, possess time-management skills and be able to meet deadlines in a high-paced communications environment. The communications assistant reports to the director of communications.

 

 

Description of Duties

  • Assume primary responsibility for the selling of advertising for the Thomas Magazine
  • Conduct phone and in-person advertising sales
  • Assemble rate card, demographics sheet and vendor list for sales
  • Interview students, alumni, faculty, staff and others for the Thomas Magazine
  • Assist in the research, writing and editing of the Thomas Magazine
  • Assume secondary responsibility for the writing of various news releases
  • Send news releases to statewide and national press
  • Maintain advertising contacts list
