Career Services
Update - week of January 26, 2004
* Mark your
calendar –
Imagine a hockey
rink. Now, instead of
players, picture employers and decision makers with displays and bowls of candy. In place of ice, visualize blue plastic
flooring that slides just enough to make you wonder how silly you’re going to
look when you walk in dress shoes on it.
Put it all together and you have UMO’s huge
Career Fair this Thursday January 29th from 10 am until 3 pm. While there has been quite a buzz in the
hallways about this event few have signed up for a ride. If you would like a ride please email me. I am extending the
ride request deadline to THIS TUESDAY (1/27) if you would like to go. Consider yourself warned…….
There will be over
120 exhibiters – visit this UMO
site for more info.
Dress
appropriately for the event – this is essentially your first interview.
Consider having
lunch after the event (breath,
teeth).
Bring your resume
– please email me
if you need it printed on quality paper.
Bring a note pad
or portfolio (this is better – it will keep your resumes neat) and jot down
names of people you talk to – send a card to thank them and to reiterate your
interest in a position.
Do some research
ahead of time – pick out the employers you want to speak with and be prepared
to wow them with a couple of pertinent questions.
Check out this link on the Career
Services site for more info on Career Fairs.
* Bulletin Board –
The board outside
the Career Services office is under construction. Very soon we will be unveiling a new look and
we need your help to make it better. In
honor of the barely operable Mars rover, Spirit and its livelier kin, Opportunity
the theme for this board will be “Stars of the Moment”. If you’ve gotten a new job recently we’d like
to hear from you – and recognize you as one of our stars (if you’ll let
us). Working while attending school makes
for a tough juggling act, but you’re gaining important experience while paying
your bills (you are paying your bills with the money aren’t you?). We’ll keep you updated on this project.
* On-Campus
Recruiting AND Correction –
MBNA’s visit to Thomas has been moved to Wednesday February 25th. It was felt that it would be best if this
happened during a week in which there was
actually school in session (thanks to Jean Croce for the catch). Calvin
Chen, Recruitment Coordinator, will conduct a Full Time Career Opportunities
Session from 4-5pm in the
