* Contest News - New Year's Resolutions.  We've all made them.  Career Services would like you to think in terms of New Year's Career Resolutions!  This resolution can be for yourself or for others.  For example, perhaps Martha Stewart's New Year's Career Resolution should be to avoid insider trading...!  That's the contest.  What New Year's resolution, regarding Careers for yourself or someone you know, can you suggest?  Submit your idea no later than January 27 so that we may have a winner by January 31.  The winner will receive a gift certificate to Subway - their low fat choices are a perfect way to keep your OTHER New Year's resolution!

Job hunting tips - (From Employment Times)

It is fascinating to speak with job seekers.  We are amazed at the vast numbers of job seekers who talk about wanting to improve their position, but find every way possible to narrow their search to the point of impossibility.  Have you found yourself saying any of these things?

I don't want to take a pay cut.  Since most of us live within our income, it is understandable that no one wants to take a cut in pay.  However, we should always look at the entire compensation package including benefits and other perks included in the package.

I don't want to drive too far.  A long commute is never pleasant, but a flexible schedule or an offer from a highly desirable company may offset some of the unpleasant aspect of a commute!

I don't want to work for THAT company.  Most of our impressions about companies is not first-hand knowledge.  If a negative impression you have formed about a company has come from friends or associates, you would be wise to take some time to form your own opinion before passing judgment.

I don't want to relocate.  A relocation, while painful, could lead to a better lifestyle!  Carefully consider the long-term benefits of relocating before turning down an offer.

I don't want to take a temp job.  Temporary jobs are a GREAT way to try out a company.  Many companies hire temps to try them in a position before hiring them as full time employees.  This is also a great way to determine what jobs you like or dislike.  Check out local temp services to see what they have to offer!

I don't want to take a step down.  One's own ego can often interfere with a great opportunity.  A step down can often be a temporary situation and could even lead to greater opportunities as the company sees your work ethic and job skills.

* On-Campus recruiting - Invitations have been sent and our spring on-campus recruiting schedule is beginning to take shape.  Our first on-campus recruitment was finalized today.  On January 21, Aerus will be looking to interview students (or alum!) that are interested in employment with their company.  They currently have positions open for part-time, full-time, and internships.  They have part-time openings available now.  They will be interviewing from 1-4.  Please stop into our office to sign up!

* Weekly humor -

A boy frog telephones the Psychic Hotline and his Personal Psychic Advisor tells him: "You are going to meet a beautiful young girl who will want to know everything about you."

The frog is thrilled and exclaimed, "This is great! And where will I meet this beautiful young girl?"

"In her biology class," replied the psychic.

Have a great week!
