Career Services
Update - week of February 2, 2004!
* UMO Recap – The UMO Career Fair was a
huge success. Over 120 businesses
attended and I have to say that many decision makers were impressed with the
way
* Mark your
calendar – Robin Kelley, Human
Resource Representative of UPS
, will be visiting our campus on Tuesday February 10th. The
* Bulletin Board –
Our new
Career Services Bulletin Board is up and fully operational (thanks Jess). The theme is “Stars of the Moment”. The star(s) is/are you when you tell us you
have a new job. You can either stop by
and tell us or click on the newly renamed “I got a job!!!”
link on our website. This used to be
called the “Congratulations Form” But
after conducting several focus groups we found 2 things: we have great snacks
at our focus group meetings and no one knew what the congratulations form was for. We hope you’ll take a moment, be counted and
be an inspiration to other jobs seeks here at Thomas.
* Job Hunting tips
– I just got
off the phone with a recruiter who was at the UMO Career Fair who wants to
interview several of our students. He
told me that he wanted to get those people “off the market” as soon as possible
if they are a good fit for the position and want the job. I point this out because if you are
graduating in May (or need a summer job) THE MARKET IS OPEN. A job hunt is a competition, like a
race. And a race is like a box of
chocolates. If you get a late start you
may not be able to catch up and all you’ll end up with is that funky little
piece with the weird filling that isn’t even described on the map that’s in the
box. The longer you wait, the less
prepared you’ll be. Stop in to the
Career Services office and let’s give that resume the once over.
* Career Fair – The next college Career
Fair will be the
NON PROFIT & SCIENCE JOBS/INTERNSHIP FAIR. It will be held this Thursday. For more info click here. The Thomas Career Fair will be March 17th.
* Jobs – Have you checked our jobs website? We’ve added some part-time positions. And there are internships and seasonal as
well as full-time positions available.
It’s updated on a regular basis so it’s worth checking every few
days. You can’t win the lottery without
buying a ticket and you won’t get a job without looking for one (buying a lottery
ticket is no substitute for looking for work – plus you’ll never convince me
that the silver stuff that rubs off is safe).
Have a great week!
