Career Services
Update - week of February 27, 2006!
* Mark Your
Calendar – The Thomas College Career Fair is, like, only
a couple of weeks away. March 15 is the
date and we have 40 companies committed to attend (with a few more additions
likely by the end of the week). You can
see a current list of attendees by
clicking here. The Career Services bulletin board (on the
first floor of the Admin building) also has a listing with information about
the companies and jobs they are looking to fill. This information will also be emailed to you
once the lineup is set.
It is important that you
attend this event even if you are not graduating this year. You can work on your networking skills and
ask about internships. Some companies will be offering part-time
positions as well. The continued success
of the fair depends on your participation so please make some time to come to
the gym on the 15th between 9:30am and 1:30pm.
* Job Hunting – You’ve just had an
interview. Now, when do you follow up
with that decision maker? A survey
conducted by Robert Half International indicates sooner rather than later is
best. 82% of the executives polled
indicated you need to check back with them within 2 weeks.
In
terms of how you should get back to them it went this way:
Email
– 38%
Phone
– 33%
Handwritten
note – 23%
Don’t
be afraid to contact those hiring managers.
Since there’s no consensus on how to get back to them go with your gut.
* New Job Openings
– New
listings this time around include a Family Support Worker
opening at KVCAP and Border
Patrol for Homeland Security.
Part-time openings include a Paraplanner
position with UM Investor Services in Waterville and an HR Admin position
with Motivational Services in Augusta.

and internship openings.
Have a great week!
