Update - week of March 8, 2004!
* Congratulations
– New hires Our newest Cosmonaut is Matt Kruk. Matt went to
see UPS
when they were on campus. He followed
that up with a visit to their facility for an interview – and the next thing
you know he’s
* Mark your
calendar – This
Thursday (March 11) is the date for the UMF Career Fair. It will run from 1-4pm. This makes for a good tune-up before our fair
next week.
* Job Hunting tips
- The purpose of the resume is to get an interview –
that’s all. Think of it like a sales
piece or an ad in a magazine. That
doesn’t mean that you’ll get an interview if you feature fashion models and
exotic sports cars on your 24lb linen paper.
You do need to keep in mind that this is not the place to bore
someone. The use of action words and focused,
descriptive phrases in “digestible blocks” of information go a long way to
conveying that you are a viable candidate.
Please see me if you would like some help with your resume.
* Career Fair – Preparations have segued
from mid-range to high gear for next week’s Career Fair. It’s Wednesday (St. Patty’s Day) March 17th
from 9:30am until 1:30pm. We currently
have over 30 businesses signed up – these are folks looking to speak with you
about upcoming openings. There will be
no better opportunity for you to meet this many decision makers on our
campus. Even if you aren’t graduating
this year you can come and speak to the recruiters. Some are offering summer jobs too.

“Failing
to prepare is preparing to fail” (I think a Marine told me that one). Take some time and look into these
organizations and see if they interest you.
You don’t need to be a walking encyclopedia but some basics are always
helpful.
This
link will list
any companies who are added between now and next Monday.
Have a great week!
