Career Services Update - week of March 22, 2004!

* Congratulations – New hires - It’s been a busy week for job hunters.  Congrats to Desiree Horton and Lindsay Niles who both got jobs with the State of Maine as an Auditor 1.  Can Auditor 2 promotions be far behind?  Both Desiree and Lindsay will start in May.

Dave Alberico went to the Career Fair last Wednesday looking for work and he too has a job to call his.  Dave will don the spacesuit with all the pageantry accorded a Senior Customer Service Representative.  Dave will be working at Citifinancial here in Waterville.

* Shake hands with the Governor – National Student Employment Week runs from Sunday April 11th (oddly, a day of rest for most folks) through the 17th.  There aren’t any big sales associated with this – which allows us to focus on its true meaning, and that is students who have jobs while they attend school.

Governor Baldacci, as he did last year, will sign a proclamation regarding this on Friday April 9th at 11:30am in his office in Augusta.  And this is where I need your help.  I’d like to have 2 students pay a visit to the capitol with me (I’ll throw in lunch).  If you are interested, are working (job or internship) and are available please email me why you’d like to attend.  You don’t have to make a federal case out of it – a paragraph would do.  Thanks!

* Contest News – I want to thank all the students who returned surveys from the Career Fair.  I am in the process of reviewing your recommendations in order to improve the next fair.  The winner of the T-Shirt is…………(can’t you just feel the tension building?)

Stephanie Weymouth – C’mon down to Career Services and pick up your shirt!

* Recruiting Visits – Matthew Schroeder from American Express Financial Advisors will be visiting the campus on Wednesday March 24th at 2pm (he was also at the fair).  If you would like to start the application process with Matthew please email him (click on his name) to let him know you will be available.  You can also email me if you’d like.

Also, this Thursday, MBNA will be sending a bus here to take you there (there being the Belfast location).  It will arrive at the flagpole at 7:45am.  The tour of the facility runs from 9a-5p and will include breakfast, lunch and a shot at 4 tickets to a Celtics game.  Please let me know by Wednesday at noon if you are planning to attend.

* Cool Jobs – We’ve been inundated with a barrage of jobs.  Over 12 were added today.  Of note are:

2 Summer positions at Golf Courses.  One at Dexter Golf Club and the other at Rockland Golf Club.

A security related position at Sears in Augusta (it scanned sideways – but you can rotate the image when you view it in Adobe)

The State of Maine is looking for a Computer Programmer – you’ll need to move on that one, the posting closes April 2nd (no fooling).

All other jobs will be listed at the Career Services Jobs Posting Site when it updates tomorrow morning.

Have a great week!
