Career Services Update - week of April 12, 2004!

* Mark your calendar – Big day tomorrow.  Enterprise Rent a Car will be visiting campus tomorrow at 2:00 pm.  If you are interested in learning about their management trainee program please stop by the Career Services office and meet Erin Sylvester.  To interview you need to apply online at this link.  You don’t need to go to the link and apply to visit.

Also tomorrow the Army National Guard will be in the Stickney Room from 4-6pm.  Along with info on the positions and benefits available there will be PIZZA.  Please stop in tomorrow and say hello.

On Wednesday, Janet Keene from Crossmark will speak to 2 of Betty-Jane Meader’s classes (at 10:00 and 11:00 in Room 205).  Crossmark is looking for a Full-Time Retail Sales Representative.  This person will visit Super Wal-Marts in Maine and ensure Crossmark's clients are being effectively marketed.  The position does come with a company car and credit card to take care of expenses while on the job.

People in these positions go home every day after work - you just hit a different cluster of stores each day.  If you don't like the same thing every day and enjoy working independently this is a great opportunity.

If you’d like to learn more about Crossmark you are welcome to come to Room 205 at 10:00 or 11:00 am on Wednesday.  We’ll also be in the Stickney Room at 1:00pm as well.

* Job Hunting tips – When writing your resume think about your accomplishments along with your job description.  It’s one thing to say that you “resolve customer service problems”  it’s quite another to say “saved clients over $20,000 in shipping costs in 4th quarter of 2003”  You may not be in a position to know your stats, but if you are (and there’s a story to tell) make sure it’s on your resume.  Often when you get a review you’ll see some numbers regarding productivity.  Always ask for a copy of your evaluations.  They may come in handy later.

* Career Fair – UMF’s Education Career Fair is Monday April 26th from 1-4pm in Dearborn Gym.  For more info follow this handy link.

Have a great week!
