Career Services
Update - week of April 17, 2006!
* Congratulations
New Hire! – Tanya
Taylor has secured an internship with the Maine State
Department of Probation and Parole.
Tanya worked with Career Services on this one, in essence “creating” an
internship because that department didn’t have any postings or openings. It’s amazing what a phone call, some hard
work and patience can do. Tanya started
on this 3 months ago and it’s paid off – way to go!!!!!
* Shake Hands With
The Governor – About 2 weeks ago I emailed you directly
about Governor Baldacci signing a proclamation concerning Maine Student
Employment Week. This is a salute to
you, the working student. Each year 2
Thomas students come with me to the State House to meet the Governor and then
have lunch. I finally have the date: Friday April 28th at 10:30am. I have received some thoughtful responses
– but there is still time if you would like to be considered too. Please email
me spelling out why you’d like to go and meet with the Governor next
Friday. Any Thomas student is eligible
(day or night – grad or undergrad). I’ll
announce the winners Tuesday April 25th.
* New Job Openings
– A couple
really cool ones for the summer just came together. The Chief
Medical Examiner for the state of Maine has an internship in their office
for the summer.
The
Maine State Bar Association needs a Program Coordinator
for the summer (this is a “job” as opposed to an internship). This has a marketing focus dealing with the
association’s continuing education seminars for their membership (keep in mind
a potential law student would also benefit from having this on their resume
too)
Both
of these positions can be found on our jobs posting website. They will not be viewable until the system
updates at midnight (like you needed another reason to stay up…). If you have any questions about either of
these positions please let me know.

Have a great week!
