Career Services Update - week of September 6, 2004!

* Old Business – We’re happy to report that 94% of the class of 2004 had jobs within 90 days of graduation.  The average full-time wage was $30,954, with a reported high of $37,500.  Entry-level hiring is expected to rise this year.  The National Association of Colleges and Employers’ latest survey indicates businesses will hire 13% more new grads this year than last  – which means we can expect to report a 107% placement rate next year.

* New Business – With purposeful determination and just a hint of remorse, the Career Services office has moved to its new location.  We’re now on the first floor next to Admissions.  Our phone number (ext. 106) hasn’t changed.  Feel free to check out the new digs.

Annette Fuller has joined the Career Services staff as a work study.  There is also another opening in Career Services.  Please see the SFS office for more details on this position and others that are available.  If you’re interested, please let me know by next Monday September 13th.

* Mark your calendar – Dan Alley, the Director of Human Resources for Macdonald Page Schatz Fletcher, will be on campus October 14th to interview for Staff Accountant positions.  There will be openings in Augusta and Portland.  If you are interested in a full or part-time tax season internship next semester Dan wants to talk to you as well.  To get an interview you must first submit your resume to Career Services.  You can email them  here.  Resumes will then be forwarded to Dan for consideration.  An interview would then be set up by the Career Services office with you.  If you have any questions regarding either position please feel free to contact Dan directly at 622-4766.

Putnam Investments will be on campus the week of September 20th to recruit for positions at their facility on our campus.  There will be more details on this (and other visitors to campus) next week.

* E-portfolio – An e-portfolio is an excellent way for you to assemble a collection of your work (in and outside of school) that demonstrates your knowledge of the four Thomas College Core Competencies.  Please visit this link on the Career Services site to learn more.

* Jobs – The IRS has openings in June of 2005 that you can apply for today.  Please hurry because the deadline to submit an application is SEPTEMBER 13TH, 2004.  The Internal Revenue Service is looking to hire Internal Revenue Agents for their Small Business Self Employed Division. The job announcement and online application process is online at www.jobs.irs.gov.  These jobs are available throughout New England.

This and other openings are posted on the Career Services jobs website.  It’s updated whenever new jobs are available (typically every two or three days) so please check it often.

Have a great week!
