Career Services Update - week of September 20, 2004!

* Mark your calendar – Putnam Investments is recruiting all this week on campus for positions at their facility on our campus.  You can find them in the second floor lounge near the Art Gallery through Wednesday and by the Dining Center Thursday and Friday.  Each day Putnam is here from 11am until 3pm.

Dan Alley, the Director of Human Resources for Macdonald Page Schatz Fletcher, will be on campus October 14th to interview for Staff Accountant positions.  There will be openings in Augusta and Portland.  If you are interested in a full or part-time tax season internship next semester Dan wants to talk to you as well.  To get an interview you must first submit your resume to Career Services.  You can email them  here.  Resumes will then be forwarded to Dan for consideration.  The deadline to apply is October 4th.

A representative from The Washington Center  will be visiting campus on Tuesday October 5th.  TWC, a Thomas partner, offers internship opportunities that match your academic/professional goals and they’re located where the action is – in Washington, D.C.  Their website explains more and I have brochures if you’d like to stop by and pick one up.

* More Accounting Madness – Ted Asherman from Berry, Dunn, McNeil & Parker will be conducting on campus interviews on Monday October 18th.  Positions will be listed on the Career Services Jobs Posting Page starting Wednesday 9/22.  Also in the works is an invite-only meet and greet event to learn more about Berry, Dunn w/ pizza in the Atrium on October 5th.

* Job Hunting tips -  I wanted to point out a couple websites this week.  Please keep in mind that websites aren’t always the most effective way to find work – but they can be useful for looking at job descriptions and researching companies.

Flipdog.com  Recently bought by Monster, in terms of Maine listings, Flipdog only has about 4 paid ads at any given time.  What makes this site great is the search engine it uses to display jobs listed in other places.  It doesn’t search other job websites – it finds openings listed on company websites.  Not every listing is valid, but there is value here.

Dice.com is a good one if you’re looking for information about IT jobs.

* New Jobs – Tasty offerings on the Jobs Posting site this week include an IT Support position with Maine MEP in Augusta,  support positions with Living Innovations (Augusta and Waterville) and a work-study position with the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce.  The site updates each night at midnight with a small ceremony – folks who have seen it liken it to the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace.  It’s worth checking out at least once.

Have a great week!
