Career Services Update - week of October 28, 2002!

Thanks to all who participated in this fall's Career Fair. Employers were happy to meet so many well-prepared, intelligent and well-mannered students! They really appreciated meeting with faculty and staff members and especially enjoyed the food (thanks to Dan Roy and Co.!).  Special thanks to Tucker Hoffman, Ryan White, Will Rouse, and Darcy Thomas for helping assist the participants!  We are already starting to think of ways to improve the spring career fair - send us your ideas!

Congratulations to Scott Cayouette and Martin Cummings, winners of tickets to the Nov 4 wrestling extravaganza in Bangor, courtesy of Clear Channel Communications. Laura Soule was the big winner, however, and will receive a $250 gift certificate to the Thomas College Bookstore. Thank you Clear Channel and Mr. Mike!

Our plan to revitalize the Alumni Career Network seems to be part of a national trend!  According to the Eastern Association of Colleges and Employers (EACE), more alumni than ever are serving as a resource for job placement and programming.  At the same time, alums are looking to their college Career Services Offices in record numbers for support and assistance during these tough economic times - a 60% increase in the past year alone!

Fact of the week! - Another interesting factoid from the NACE annual salary survey found that the top five job "functions" of bachelor's degree candidates receiving the greatest number of job offers (with the average starting salaries in parentheses) are:

    1.  Entry-level management trainees ( $33,287)
    2.  Teaching ($30,050)
    3.  Design/Construction engineering ($43,794)
    4.  Sales ($33,758)
    5.  Accounting - private ($38,984)

Thomas grads will be qualified in 4 out of 5 of these areas - excellent!
