Career Services Update - week of November 13, 2006!

* Mark Your Calendar    The Army National Guard will have information available outside the Dining Center from 11:30am until 1:00pm on Wednesday November 15th.

* Job Hunting Tips – The importance of proper dress during an interview can’t be overstated.  Have you also considered what you will wear when you get the job? Check out this link to an article on CNN’s Money Page.  It begins harmlessly, with a mom telling us her bright, articulate daughter dresses like a streetwalker.  Then it segues into a study that shows how the perception of a female manager will change based on what she is wearing.  There is fodder here for our young budding male execs-to-be too.  The rule of thumb is always dress two steps above your current station so the people around you “see” you taking on more responsible roles.  Dress like a pig and you’ll continue to shovel out the stalls…….

* Career Services iPod Giveaway – Now that I have your attention let’s get down to business.  I realize that working on your resume isn’t the most glamorous activity this time of year, so I figured you could use an incentive to meet with me to go over it.  If you are a day student and you make and keep an appointment with Career Services to work on your resume between now and December 15th you will be placed in a drawing to win a 4 gig iPod Nano (Product) Red.  This little baby holds 1,000 songs and the purchase of it helps the Global Fund fight AIDS in Africa.  If you’ve met with me this semester email me (with your resume) and you’re in too.  If you met with me in a previous semester it’s time for another meeting.

Career Services employees are not eligible.  Winner must pick up prize.

* New Job Openings –  Here’s a great way to help out the less fortunate during this holiday season.  The Maine Children’s Home for Little Wanderers in Waterville could use your help packing presents into gift boxes during late afternoons (volunteer work looks great on a resume by the way).

It’s been a slow week job-wise, in part due to the holiday Friday.  Please click here for the latest job and internship openings.

Have a great week!
