Career Services Update - week of November 27, 2006!

* Career Services iPod Giveaway – There is still plenty of time to meet with me this term to discuss your resume.  Aside from a chance at a very cool prize, you have the opportunity to enhance your ability to land a rewarding new job.  If you are a day student and you make and keep an appointment with Career Services to work on your resume between now and December 15th you will be placed in a drawing to win a 4 gig iPod Nano (Product) Red.  This little baby holds 1,000 songs and the purchase of it helps the Global Fund fight AIDS in Africa.  If you’ve met with me this semester email me (with your resume) and you’re in too.  If you met with me in a previous semester it’s time for another meeting.

* Job Hunting Tips – Speaking of resumes (and noting how neatly this is all tying together) take a gander at this article from the “Your Career” section on the MSNBC website.  It deals with plugging gaps in resumes.  Some recruiters treat a resume as if it’s a job application.  By that, I mean they would like every job you’ve ever had to be listed.  But would they read a resume that long?  Chances are they won’t.  Don’t be afraid to tailor your resume – and keep in mind it’s not an exact science.  Please see your friendly Career Services Office for more help.

* New Job Openings – The big news on the internship front is that the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office is looking for another intern for the spring term.  If you’re a December grad (day or night) Bath Iron works is looking for a Cost Analyst (the posting shows a closing date of 11/8 – it has been extended).   If you’re looking to hone your sales chops Albert’s Fine Furniture in Waterville is looking for a part-time Commissioned Sales Person.

Have a great week!
