Career Services Update - week of May 3, 2004!

This is the last edition for the term.  I’m getting a little emotional and will type as fast as possible so the tears I’m shedding don’t well up and foul the keyboard……

* Congratulations – New hires Congrats to Jon Fullerton who has taken a Management Trainee position with Enterprise Rent-a-Car.  Jon will initially work out of the Augusta office and then move to Portland.

Brielle Daggett is heading south with a new job.  She’s accepted a position as a Loan Technician  with Peirson and Patterson in Dallas, TX.

Was Jevon Owen’s awesome performance on the mound Friday due to rigorous training?  Or was it because he was brimming with confidence knowing that his bills will be paid after graduation?  Jevon has accepted a position with Wells Fargo Financial in Bangor as an Account Representative.

* Senior Survey – If you are graduating this May and haven’t yet had your fill of paperwork please stop by Career Services and complete a Graduation Survey.  The survey allows us to track the placement of graduates and it will enable you to let us know if you could use some help in your search.

Survey forms are located on the bulletin board outside the Career Services office.  I can send you a soft copy if you email me.

* Job Hunting tips -  I have just added information regarding resources for Gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender job hunters to the Web Sites for Job Seekers page.  The info is from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation and is geared towards all job seekers looking for companies that embrace diversity.

* Internship – Time Warner in South Portland is advertising Internships in the latest edition of The Employment Times.  You can view their offerings by going to this site.

* Interview tips – There is a general belief out there that recruiters, when they call your home, want to catch you “off guard”.  While this may or may not be true there is a way to be prepared.  Rule #1 of phones clearly states: You don’t have to answer the phone if you don’t want to.  You should never pick up the phone if you’re not prepared to speak to a recruiter.  So if there are children screaming, pets out of control or you’re just in a bad space let the machine get it (you have a professional sounding recording on there right?).  Then when things have calmed down call that person back.  You can be more prepared by having copies of your resume and jobs you’ve applied for near the phone.

Have a great summer and please remember that Career Services is open to help you in your Job Search!
