Thomas College Commuter Life

The Student Life Department works to develop programs and activities for the Thomas College commuter population. Events such as movie nights, lunches, and comedians are some of the activities the Student Life and Campus Activities Board have worked to develop. For a complete list of campus events, check out the online calendar.  For more information about commuter life at Thomas, feel free to contact the Coordinator of Student Activities, John R. O'Connor at (207) 859-1247 or the Student Life Office at (207) 859-1216.

Please remember that ALL day students pay an activities fee - Residents AND Commuters.  ANY event taking place on campus is open to commuter students ... don't hesitate to attend and take part!
  • That all commuter students have access to GPH residence halls during hours when the Health Center is open?  The Health Center is available to all day students and you are encouraged to connect in for wellness and medical needs.
  • If you need a parking decal or have a question about parking, campus safety or want an escort to your vehicle, Public Safety is available 24/7/365 by calling extension 399 from any campus phone or 207-859-1399 from your cell phone.  Their office is in the GPH residence hall lobby.
  • As a day student, you pay an activities fee which means that you should take advantage of the vibrant campus life and activities offered for you.  From Campus Activities Board events to day and evening programs and recreation and intramural teams, consider getting involved and making Thomas your home away from home.
  • The Dining Center offers a commuter meal card at a discount rate.  Are you on campus a lot during the lunch time or stay late and want to grab a  yummy dinner?  Purchasing these cards give you flexibility to eat a balanced and filling meal and save you money.  If you are on campus morning, noon and night, consider purchasing a meal plan through the Student Financial Services office to have the utmost flexibility in dining options.
  • If you are looking for a place to put your belongings between classes, lockers are available at the Alfond Athletic Center.
  • Speaking of the Alfond Athletic Center, have you considered an early morning, mid day or late afternoon work out?  Take advantage of the free gym and facility available to you.  Intramurals are not only fun, but a great way to meet other students and get involved - from dodgeball to basketball, there's an intramural sport for you!  Join a team or sign up for an open draft team in the Alfond at any time - it's easy to do and fun to participate in.
  • There are multiple student lounges and spots to relax, study or meet up with friends.  The Kennel is located in the Administration Building and offers computers, a printer, study tables, comfy furniture, large screen TV and a small microwave and fridge.  Check out the bulletin board in the Kennel to keep current on what's happening around campus.  Stretch your legs and head over to the newly renovated Spann Commons to read by the fire place, play a round of pool or ping pong, plug in to a computer station at a high top table or grab a bit to eat at the Dog Pound CafĂ© - they have everything you will need from soup and sandwiches to hot entrees.
  • In the event of inclement weather, you can always call the snow line to find out about your class status before traveling to campus - 207-859-1140.
  • Be sure to keep necessary supplies in your car for all types of situations - from a snow brush and ice scraper in the winter to extra windshield wiper fluid and a pair of jumper cables...just in case.  For more driving tips, click here.

Active commuter involvement is a crucial part of the college experience. Studies have shown that students who participate in co-curricular activities actually do better in school than those who are not involved, so get involved!
