What can cause my Windows Account to be locked out?
Accounts become locked out when the wrong password is attempted multiple times. Locks are automatically reset approximately 30 minutes after the last attempted login. This mechanism is in place to limit the effectiveness of brute force password guessing attacks.
If you find that you are locked out, it may be due to the following reasons:
-
Your password to login to your computer does not match your Thomas college account password. (Change the passwords so that they match on BOTH accounts.)
-
You have a connection to a shared drive (P: drive, I: drive) or network printer (GPHLASER, STULASERLIB, etc) that is using an old password. (Disconnect from the shared drive or delete the networked printer and reconnect when unlocked.)
-
Your Wi-Fi connection is trying to conect to Thomas College with an old password. (Delete and re-create the Wi-Fi connection.)
-
A computer application is attempting to login with an old password. (Disable the application or update the password.)
For assitance with unlocking your account or completing any of these steps, please contact the Service Desk.
