Thomas College Lync / Public IM Services
Thomas College provides Microsoft Lync 2010 to all students, faculty, and staff to communicate internally for text, voice, and video methods of communication. IM, “calls”, application sharing, whiteboards, and group discussions are supported.
Connections to one public IM network (MSN/Windows Live) is available to all as of 7/30/09. Connections to two public IM networks (AOL and Yahoo) are also available for a small fee. Public IM clients can communicate with you using your Thomas College email address on all three services. SPIM filtering and URL filtering provides an extra level of security when connecting to the public IM systems.
These products provide an on-campus and off-campus SIP Communications Service at im.thomas.edu TLS port 5061. This service can be accessed with Lync 2010, Lync Online, and Lync 2010 Mobile as well as several third party-apps (iDialog for iPhone for example). OS X users may use the newest Lync for Mac 2011 or Remote Desktop to connect to our academic terminal servers.
If you are a student, faculty, or staff member at Thomas College who would like to include public IM, you may optionally purchase a license. Approximate price is under $30. This license is good until October 2011 and as long as you have a valid username on our site.
If you are a student, faculty, or staff member at Thomas College who would like to include ShoreTel telephone integration, you may optionally purchase a license for approximately $85.
Please contact Chris Rhoda in IT Services for more information or to purchase a license.
