I grew up as a farm kid in upstate New York and moved away from home early and, after some time as a radio DJ, served six years in the U.S. Navy as a Navy Corpsman and Pharmacist’s Mate (running the busiest military pharmacy on earth). After a stint in the Navy’s Sixth Fleet (Admiral’s Staff) on an aircraft carrier as the Pharmacy representative to a Rapid Deployment Force Surgical Team (the first “normalization cruise” after the Beirut bombing in 1983 – a diplomatic mission), my Navy tour was considered complete and I became an insurance agent and a securities registered representative for the wealthiest company on earth. For over twenty years, my daily work cycle was centered in or around the finance industry as a business owner, business consultant, federal wirehouse Financial Advisor, and federal judge (FINRA), to make sure that investors received good value for their money and that institutions grew more profitable in a compliant way. As a student, I have enrolled for and taken over 400 semester hours of classes and as a professor, I have served as a department chair, course architect and a curriculum developer – I have already taught over three-dozen college classes in accounting, business, economics, statistics, and finance. My Master of Business Administration/Finance (with Distinction) and Doctor of Philosophy with a specialization in Financial Economics (Honors Graduate) degrees, and considerable practitioner-level experience in “real world” business and industry, have prepared me to write texts and international academic journal research articles in economics and finance. I currently reside with my family in Waterville, ME and serve as an Assistant Professor of Management here at Thomas College.
My hobbies include kayaking, lap swimming, SCUBA, real-time computer strategy war-gaming, and jogging on the beach.
