Sources of Financial Aid

These are some types of aid you may be eligible to receive in your financial aid package:

  • Federal Pell Grant: Awards are based on the Expected Family Contribution (EFC).  Amounts range from $890 to $4731 for 2008-2009.
  • Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG): Priority is given to students with the lower EFC.  Amounts range from $200 to $4000.
  • State Grant Program: Awards are typically based upon EFC.  You should contact your state for information on deadlines and availability.
  • Federal Work-Study Program: Eligible students are employed by the College through the Work-Study program.  Money earned through this program is to be used to help defray educational costs.
  • Federal Perkins Loan:  At Thomas, this loan is typically awarded to eligible freshmen and sophomore resident students.
  • Direct Stafford Loan: Loan amounts are based upon grade level - Grade Level I: $3500; Grade Level II: $4500; Grade Level III: $5500; Grade Level IV: $5500.  Federal need will determine if the loan is Subsidized or Unsubsidized.
  • Outside Scholarships: Generally, outside scholarships are used to fill unmet need.  If there is no remaining unmet need, financial aid may be adjusted.  All outside scholarships must be reported to the SFS Office.
  • Thomas College Grants:  Thomas Grants are need-based and are used to supplement federal and state financial aid.
  • Thomas College Merit Scholarships: Thomas offers first time students academic based scholarships.
  • Other Institutional Scholarships: Current students may be eligible for scholarships based on academic merit and financial need.
