| Here are a Few of the programs/features that Windows Vista Ultimate has that are not available for Vista Home edition. |
- Microsoft Configuration Manager -
Requires Vista Business, Enterprise, or Ultimate to install/use. Thomas College uses this software to update
standard applications as security updates for software applications become available.
Without this software, you will need to install every security patch as they come out, manually.
Also, if your machine is lost or stolen, IT Services will be able to provide unique information regarding your hardware
to authorities to aid in the recovery of your device.
- Multimedia Applications - Some versions of Windows Vista Home do not have Windows Media Center,
Windows Movie Maker with high-definition support, and Windows DVD Maker. Windows Ultimate has these
applications installed by default.
- Business Networking Features - Windows Vista Ultimate offers all of the features found in
Windows Vista Business, including business networking, centralized management tools, and advanced
system backup features not found in Windows Vista Home editions.
- Mobility Features - Windows Vista Ultimate includes support for all of the new mobility
features in Windows Vista, including Windows Tablet and Touch Technology, options not found on
Windows Vista Home.
- Windows Ultimate Extras - Exclusive to Windows Vista Ultimate are Windows Ultimate Extras.
Windows Ultimate Extras are add-ons that extend capabilities of your operating system or make using
your PC more fun. Windows Ultimate Extras include: Windows DreamScene, an Extra that enables you to
use looped, full-motion video as your desktop wallpaper instead of a static image, Windows Hold’em,
a poker game for players of all skill levels, Language packs for Windows multi-language interface,
where users can install and use multiple languages on a single PC, Secure Online Key Backup, where
Ultimate users can store their BitLocker recovery password and Encrypting File System certificate on
Windows Marketplace’s Digital Locker website for access to the key anytime, anyplace, and from any
computer that has an Internet connection, and the BitLocker Drive Preparation Tool, an automated
tool which removes the complexity of setting up your PC to use this exclusive data security feature.
- Remote Desktop Connection - Remote Desktop Connection allows you to be able to connect
to remotely to another computer (e.g. Terrier8). Remote Desktop connection would
allow you to connect to, and use your computer like it was right in front of you.
Vista Home does not allow you to connect to it remotely, but it can act to connect to
another computer. Remote Desktop Connection also allows for Remote
Assistance, which allows which allows a help desk or system administrator to remotely
connect to your computer for troubleshooting purposes.
