Position Summary (General Descriptions/Primary Purpose)

 

This position includes first tier end-user Library and IT support.

 

Class and Grade

               

This is a part-time hourly workstudy position available from September to May.  The progression path for this position is to Information Services Desk Supervisor (if the position is open), or any open IT Services or Library position.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Helps users in person and over the phone with various software and hardware problems, including:
    • Windows OS, Web Browsing, E-mail, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Databases, Presentation, Photo Editing, Desktop Publishing, Scanning, Writing to CD and DVD burners, etc.
    • Connecting student and faculty computers to the campus network
    • Toner in printers, cables, floppy drives, keyboards, mice, monitors, video cards, etc.
  • Helps users in person and over the phone with various Library tasks, including:
    • Checking out library materials and equipment
    • Processes items for Reserves
    • Provides first tier reference assistance to patrons
    • Renewing videos
    • Assists instructors with setting up and troubleshooting basic AV equipment problems in classrooms.
    • Assists patrons in the use of print and online library  resources
  • Must complete training to increase capabilities in order to help others and perform duties associated with the position.
  • Give accounts to new users and make sure AUP is signed
  • Straighten up library and lab areas and clean equipment as needed
  • Maintains neat and orderly I.S. Desk area
  • May teach software packages to students, faculty, staff
  • Follows all policies and procedures outlined in the I.S. Desk SOP manual.
  • Works on special projects as needed
  • May install PC software, create web pages, etc
  • Is polite and helpful when working with patrons and co-workers.
  • Refrains from engaging in personal activities (homework, games, web surfing, phone calls, online chat, etc.) while on duty.

 

Other Ergonomic Requirements

working environment          - I.S. Desk with a stool and computer

                physical demands                - some walking to various labs, offices and classrooms

- moving of A/V and computer equipment.

- carrying toner and paper to printers in labs located on campus.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Completion of all training and job related projects
  • Software Experience Helpful
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally in person, on the telephone, electronically, and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to meet an assigned work schedule (aside from class scheduling conflicts.)
  • Possess keyboard skills necessary to complete assigned tasks and functions (at least 50 words per minute)
  • Ability to lift AV equipment such as projectors, laptops and sound equipment and go up and down stairs.
