POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

 

JOB TITLE:  Hardware/Software Support 1

Position Summary (General Descriptions/Primary Purpose)

 

This position includes end-user support, routine maintenance, and infrastructure support.

 

Class and Grade

               

This is a part-time hourly position  which is only available for a maximum period of 24 months.  The progression path for this position is to IT Specialist (if the position is open).

 

Description of  Duties and Tasks (include estimation of time allocated to specific job tasks by percentage)

 

Essential Job Functions (the fundamental job duties, the reason the position exists)

·         End User Support (40%)

o        Diagnosing hardware and software problems

o        On-call when needed

o        Training faculty and staff

·         Routine Maintenance (40%)

o        Installing/configuring new computers

o        Installing/configuring network adapters

o        Repairing/upgrading PC hardware and software

o        Repairing printers

o        Maintaining inventory of hardware supplies (cables, adapters, etc)

·         Infrastructure Support (20%)

o        Building and installing cables

o        Running plant cabling

o        Researching, learning, and evaluating new software

o        Documenting systems

Other Ergonomic Requirements

working environment          - an office with a personal computer and the repair room

                physical demands                - running wires in the ceilings

                                                                - much walking to various offices

                                                                - moving of printers and computers

                hazardous conditions          - none known

 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Communication skills using speech and writing

Ability to touch-type at a speed of at least 50 word per minute

                Ability to systematically troubleshoot complex problems

Qualifications/Employment Standards

Current Sophomore or Junior IS/CM/CS Major
Hardware and Software Experience Helpful
