Thomas College Extranet

Thomas College IT Services staff have just completed a college extranet system which we believe is the first of its kind. This system uses Microsoft products (NT Server, SQL Server, IIS, ASP, Exchange Server) to provide internal information to external people.

The customers of our Extranet are:

• potential students (high school seniors, juniors and students at other colleges)
• current students (all full and part-time day, CED and graduate)
• parents of current students (students must grant permission)
• alumni
• high school guidance department staff
• employers

The system is secured by using SSL encryption (https://www.thomas.edu/extranet), the person's ID number, and PIN.

Capabilities for each of the areas include:

Potential Students:

1. Verify and update your personal information on our system

2. Check the status of your application for admission and financial aid application

3. View personalized information about the College based on information given to us

4. Contact our faculty about our majors and our student organizations.

Current Students and their Parents:

1. View Information about grades, bills, advising, transcripts, warnings, and courses.

2. Make payments online

Alumni:

1. Verify and update personal information on our system.

2. Access our web-based alumni discussion group.

3. View lifelong learning opportunities available at Thomas College.

4. Add themselves to our CED or Graduate School mailing list.

5. Show their unofficial school transcript and request an official College transcript.

6. Access company addresses and phone numbers from our company database.

7. Get information on upcoming alumni events, sports schedules, and career opportunities.

High School Guidance Departments:

1. View information about their current students that have inquired or applied at Thomas College.

2. View information about their past students that are still attending or have graduated from Thomas College.

3. Submit an on-line recommendation for a student.

4. Verify and update their school information (address, personnel changes, etc) on our system.

5. Request additional Catalogs, view books, applications, etc.

6. Easily contact the admissions counselor assigned to your school.

7. Show detailed information about each of our programs of study and courses within each program.

8. Contact our faculty regarding courses they are teaching.

Employers:

1. View information about their current employees that are students or alumni of Thomas College.

2. View the number of Thomas College seniors in each major.

3. Verify and update their business information (address, personnel changes, etc) on our system.

4. Show detailed information about each of our programs of study and courses within each program.

5. Contact our faculty regarding our degree program or courses they are teaching.

6. View information about our Internships and Co-op programs.
