The Thomas College Intranet has been upgraded to allow students, faculty, and staff to use Windows 2000 and Office 2000 applications through a web browser. The applications available through this method are Internet Explorer 5, Outlook 2000, Word 2000, Excel 2000, Powerpoint 2000, Access 2000, and FrontPage 2000.
This means that any student, faculty and staff member, on campus or off, can now run the newest software most often used in our labs and offices.
Students, faculty and staff can use this system by connecting to http://www.thomas.edu/intranet/ and choosing the link "Use Windows/Office 2000", where they can then can log in and use any application available.
These features are made possible by the use of:
- Windows 2000 Server
- Terminal Services running in application mode
- Microsoft Campus Agreement
- Office 2000
- IE 5
- Advanced Terminal Services for Web Client
Client hardware and software requirements are:
This client hardware and software is already in use by over 90% of our students, faculty and staff.
- any PC with Windows 3.1 or higher
- Internet Explorer 4 or higher
To our knowledge, this is one of the first systems of its kind in use.
