"The friendships I've made at Thomas have been nothing short of amazing; in such an intimate, tight-knit community, you get to know other students quite well. These are the relationships that will last long after I graduate, some for a lifetime. I’m also really excited to think about ten years down the road and see what we’ve become, reflecting back on how our Thomas experience helped to shape and guide us."

COMPUTER LABS AND CLUSTERS

Three computer labs are available to all students in room 122, room 126, room 225 and the library. Computer clusters are available in the GPH res. hall lobby, in various Bartlett areas, the commuter lounge, the athletics center, and the student center. The computer labs are staffed by Information Services Desk support staff between when open. The GPH and Bartlett res. hall computer clusters are available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week for residents only.

COMPUTER ACCOUNTS

Each student receives a Windows/Network computer account ID (username) and password giving them e-mail, individual storage space, and a web address on our server, a Blackboard computer account for online classes, and an MSDNAA account for course-related Microsoft software downloads.

INTERNET ACCESS

Each student may access the Internet from any networked computer attached to the Thomas College network.

OFF-CAMPUS ACCESS

Students may access the Thomas College network from off-campus through one of the following methods:

Off campus network services include access to the Intranet, freeware/shareware, networked printers, e-mail, and personal network drives.

FAXING

Each student may obtain a free or low cost fax to email service though an outside company. We recommend the eFax system. These services allow you to receive faxes from anyone in your email mailbox. Faxes may also be sent out from our front desk for a nominal fee.

RESIDENCE HALL ROOM TELEPHONE CONNECTIONS

On campus extensions with direct inward dialing and voice mail are available in all dormitory rooms upon request. Mid-Maine Communications, Verizon, Unicel, U.S. Cellular, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless telephone connections are also available in all residence hall rooms. Sprint's network is not available in Waterville.

RESIDENCE HALL ROOM DATA CONNECTIONS

Computer network connections are available in all residence hall rooms. This service allows students to connect to the campus network and the Internet with a personal computer running TCP/IP software. Connection speeds are switched 10/100 Mbps to the campus fiber optic network and up to T3 speeds to the Internet.

All students will receive computer network connections as part of their residential technology fee. A one-time purchase of a 10/100 ethernet network card and a network (CAT 5 or higher) cable may be needed. These cards and cables may be purchased in the Thomas College bookstore or any computer supplies store. For best results, we recommend not using lowest-cost network cards. For more information, contact IT Services.

Connection instructions are also available.

RESIDENCE HALL ROOM CABLE TV CONNECTIONS

Cable television connections are provided in all residence hall rooms. This cable service has over 55 channels including; NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, PBS, SCIFI, TBS, Prevue, USA, ESPN, A&E, Discovery, MTV, VH-1, TNN, CNN, Headline News, TBN, The Weather Channel, QVC, TNT, CSPAN, CNBC, Lifetime, Family Channel, Nickelodeon, Home Shopping, and Great American Country. Other channels are also available from on-campus sources including the Thomas College Student Events Channel. For the channel lineup, click here and enter 04901 for your zip code.

This service is provided as part of resident student's residential technology fee. Items needed are a standard cable television coax cable and either a television or a CATV-in port on your computer. If you have an older television, you may need a coax cable adapter and you may not be able to get all channels.

Additional cables services (Digital TV, HBO, Disney, Pay-Per-View, etc.) can be ordered directly from Time Warner.
