Thomas College is seeking enthusiastic, energetic teaching faculty to join the College as it enters into a new phase of growth and expansion. Based on the College’s strategic and campus master plans, the Board of Trustees has directed the development of new facilities and the expansion of the College’s faculty to accommodate the needs of a growing student population. Thomas is now seeking up to four new full-time faculty in the following areas to join the College for the Fall of 2014:


Finance/Economics Faculty

Thomas seeks to add a faculty member to a dynamic business department offering undergraduate and master’s levels programs in the business field. The faculty member for Finance/Economics will teach introductory and specialized undergraduate courses in the Finance major as well as teach Economics at the undergraduate and occasionally the graduate level.

The preferred candidate will have a record of effective teaching experience in economics and/or financial management and an interest in and teaching and/or business experience in one or more of the following: Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Money and Banking, International Economics, Economic Development, Investments, and/or Financial Management. A Ph.D. /D.B.A. in the field of Economics, Finance, or a related field is preferred.

Additional responsibilities will include advising students in the Finance major, engaging in service/outreach on behalf of the Business Department, the College, the community and the profession, and offering as needed courses in an online or blended environment.

Management Faculty

Thomas College seeks applicants for a full-time Assistant Professor of Management to support the undergraduate and graduate programs, effective in the fall of 2014.

The preferred candidates for this position will have significant experience in managerial endeavors and possess a Ph.D. or D.B.A. in Management, International Management, or a related field. A record of successful teaching and advising is desired.

Depending on the individual’s expertise, the successful candidate will offer a range of courses in areas that may include Operations Management, Organizational Theory, Working in Teams, Quality Management, Strategic Planning, Entrepreneurship, Management Policy, Leadership, International Management, and/or other areas. Teaching assignments are primarily at the undergraduate level, but may include occasional instruction at the graduate level.

Additional responsibilities include faculty committee activity, offering occasional courses in an online or blended environment, and engaging in service/outreach on behalf of the Department of Business or the College.

Psychology Faculty

Thomas College seeks a creative, enthusiastic educator for a full-time position in Psychology, effective in the fall of 2014. The preferred candidate will be prepared to teach Experimental Design & Analysis, General Psychology and courses in other areas that complement our current offerings. A commitment to teaching students with a variety of learning styles is desired. The successful candidate will have a doctorate in psychology as well as evidence of successful undergraduate teaching and advising. Teaching assignments are primarily at the undergraduate level, but may include occasional instruction at the graduate level.

Staff Positions


Coordinator of Student Life

The Coordinator of Student Life is a full-time, 11-month position in the Office of Student Affairs.

Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Students, the Coordinator of Student Life position will have a strong focus on Student Activities operations, campus programming, evening and weekend activities, leadership and service initiatives, outreach to special populations and student and club supervision and advising. The Coordinator will assist in the development and delivery of new student orientation and campus theme programming.

  • Specified functions include, but are not limited to: 
  • Advising the Campus Activities Board and other clubs/organizations as assigned.
  • Develop, implement, and coordinate a comprehensive programming and activities calendar.
  • Assist with creating a vibrant and engaging student experience.
  • Develop, implement, and coordinate leadership and service initiatives.
  • Provide assistance and advising for club leadership.
  • Maintain the Student Activities event calendar (both online and in print), promote events, and manage social media outlets.
  • Collaborate on outreach and initiatives with special populations (e.g. international and commuter students).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and one to three years of student activities experience in the college/university setting required; preferred candidates will have a master's degree in a related field, and direct experience in college activities programming, organization advising, leadership program planning and development, orientation program planning and development, design (print/web) experience, and working with diverse student populations. This position operates outside of standard work days and hours with a Tuesday – Saturday week anticipated. Nights and weekends are expected.

Residential Life Area Coordinators

Thomas College seeks innovative and self-motivated live-in professional staff members to join our Student Affairs team as Area Coordinators for designated residential areas within the department of Residential Life.  Reporting directly to the Assistant Dean of Students, the Area Coordinators will have responsibilities in supervision of the paraprofessional staff, administration and community development within their residential area, sharing on-call duties with a total of three Area Coordinators, emergency response and operations management.  In addition, the Area Coordinator will devote a portion of their time assisting with housing & facilities, programming and community development and staff training and development.  The Area Coordinator position is an 11 month, live-in administrative position that would operate outside of traditional business hours.

The successful candidates must have Bachelor's degree in Higher Education or related field, with a Master's degree preferred, minimum of two years previous experience in Residence Life, good administrative, supervisory and organizational skills, and be able to effectively communicate with students and other campus and community constituents. Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license and ability to pass the College’s vehicle and criminal background check.

Head Men's Basketball Coach

Thomas College is seeking a dynamic and energetic individual for the position of Head Men’s Basketball Coach. Located in central Maine, Thomas College is a NCAA Division III school and a member of the North Atlantic Conference (NAC). This full-time position will be responsible for the management and administration of the men’s basketball program. Additional administrative duties are required and will be determined by the qualifications of the applicant.

Qualifications: The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree and prior intercollegiate playing and/or coaching experience. Preference will be given to candidates with experience recruiting student-athletes at NCAA Division III level and working knowledge and understanding of NCAA rules and regulations. Experience in higher education and a basic familiarity with athletics in New England at the high school and/or collegiate level are also preferred. A valid driver’s license is essential. The candidate will have the ability to work as a team member in the Department of Athletics and the college community. Custodian

Thomas College is accepting applications to fill (3) custodian positions on the third shift. These positions are responsible for cleaning and maintaining specific areas of residence halls and other areas. 

Tasks may include, but are not limited to sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning windows, toilets, showers, and other surfaces. Seasonal duties include snow removal, and summer grounds work, operation of any job related mechanical devices is required.

The present schedules are (1) Sunday thru Thursday, 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM and (2) Monday thru Friday, 11:00PM to 7:30AM.  Schedules are subject to change when necessary.

Applicants must be able to lift 50 lbs. Experience preferred. High school diploma or GED and a valid driver’s license are required.  Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

Utility

Thomas College is accepting applications to fill a Utility position for the second shift. This position is responsible for maintaining a safe and clean campus with duties in both custodial and basic maintenance requirements. 

Tasks may include, but are not limited to sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning windows, toilets, showers, and other surfaces.  General mechanical expertise, ability to be efficient with work order requests, knowledge of hand and power tools, as well as seasonal outdoor work that will include, but not limited to, snow removal and grounds work. This position will be required to be on an on-call duty rotation.

The present schedule is 3:00PM to 11:30PM, Friday thru Tuesday.  Schedule is subject to change when necessary.
