Portland Sea Dogs
Thomas College Announces Exciting New Partnership to Benefit Sports Management Majors
Waterville, Maine--July, 2001 --On July 28, Thomas College and the Portland Sea Dogs launched a new partnership that will provide
mutual benefits to both organizations.
The agreement
between Thomas College and the Portland Sea Dogs creates a variety of opportunities for both
organizations. Among those opportunities
are student internships and job placements for Sports
Management majors at Thomas College. As internship opportunities and employment
placements become available, the Portland Sea Dogs will give serious
consideration to Thomas College students and graduates. The Sea
Dogs will also maintain close ties to the Thomas College Office of Career
Services, led by twenty-year veteran Bob Harriman.
Working together, the Sea Dogs and Office
of Career Services will seek to identify the most qualified candidate for each
opening. In return, the Office of Career
Services will give the Sea Dogs the opportunity to consider and interview the
most qualified students and graduates from the College's Sports Management and
other appropriate programs.
The Sea Dogs staff will be available to assist Thomas College students
who are considering careers in the Sports Management field by providing
mentoring and job shadowing opportunities as appropriate and convenient. Speakers from the Sea Dogs will also make
appearances in Thomas sport management classes.
Thomas College has
appointed a Sea Dogs representative to the Sports Management Advisory
Board. This advisory board meets several
times a year.
On July 28, Thomas
College President George Spann participated in a ceremony prior to the Sea Dogs
scheduled game. The partnership was
formally announced, with President Spann throwing out the game's first
pitch. At that game the Thomas College
Alumni Association celebrated its annual Sea Dogs Outing at the club's picnic
area. The Thomas Terrier mascot joined
Slugger on the field.
