Dr. George Spann has been president of Thomas since 1989. Prior to his arrival in Maine, he taught at three Delaware Valley colleges and universities, worked for a publishing company, and served in a variety of collegiate administrative positions. Dr. Spann earned his doctorate in history from the University of Pennsylvania in 1974. He is also a graduate of Swarthmore College and an alumnus of the Harvard University Institute for Educational Management.
Active in civic circles, Dr. Spann is a director of the Waterville Development Corporation, a director of the Maine Children's Trust and a Rotarian. In addition, he is president of the Maine Independent College Association and is a member of the Waterville Regional Arts and Community Center.
