Helen Stevens is Artist of the Month
Thomas is featuring the paintings of Helen Stevens in its art gallery during the month of December.
Stevens, who was born in Italy and now resides in Gardiner, is a painter who uses elements of realism in her work to create a visual metaphor. Stevens transforms a common object like a seashell into a vibrant work of art.
Currently, she is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. She also plans to illustrate two children’s picture books for Down East Books.
Stevens is a graduate of San Francisco State University. She also attended the University of Maryland, Philadelphia Museum College of Fine Art and Pasadena City College.
Stevens’ work is on display in the College’s art gallery in its administration building at 180 West River Road in Waterville. The gallery is open to the public Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
