Thomas Features Penny
Markley as Artist of the Month
Thomas is
featuring the paintings of Penny Markley in its art gallery during the month of
October.
Markley, of Winthrop, is the current treasurer and former president of the
Kennebec Valley Art Association. The venues that have shown her work include:
Thayer Hospital Gallery in Waterville, University of Maine at Augusta, Maine
Public Utilities Commission and Lithgow Library in Augusta.
Markley, who
owned and managed Lakeside Orchards in Manchester for 21 years with her husband,
now plans to paint more since recently retiring.
She has a
bachelor’s degree in American Studies from Barnard College and a master’s in
special education from Teachers College, Columbia University in New York.
Markley’s
work is on display in the College’s art gallery in its administration building
at 180 West River Road in Waterville. The gallery is open to the public Mondays
through Fridays, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
