Thomas Unveils Capital Campaign
$9.6 million is largest campaign in College’s
history
Thomas College is poised to
launch an unprecedented $9.6 million capital campaign, The Thomas Challenge:
Guaranteeing the Future, on October 19 in a private event on campus.
The campaign, the largest in
the College’s history, is a push to fund the new Harold Alfond Student
Recreation and Athletic Center, scholarship endowment and annual operating
funds. The kickoff event will occur at 8 p.m. after its board of trustees
meeting in the Atrium of Thomas’s Student Center at 180 West River Road in
Waterville.
“The time is now for
guaranteeing the future of the College, thereby assuring that generations of
Thomas students benefit from the same attention, access and preparation that our
graduates have enjoyed for decades. Thomas, the state of Maine and the regional
economy will be the long-term beneficiaries of this campaign,” said Conrad Ayotte, chair of Thomas’s board of trustees.
Thomas is committed to
fulfilling its mission, ensuring its long-term economic future and offering its
students a comprehensive education. The College’s current strategic plan calls
for a significant increase in its undergraduate enrollment from 510 in 2002 to
1,042 by the year 2012.
The College has received
several generous challenges for the campaign to date including a Harold Alfond
Foundation challenge for $1.25 million, an H. Allen Ryan Challenge for $500,000
and a Unity Foundation challenge for $150,000. In addition, 100 percent of
Thomas’s Board of Trustees has donated, and many regional businesses have
contributed, including TD Banknorth, N.A., which made a $250,000 pledge.
