Hannaford Donates $25,000 to Thomas
For construction of the Harold Alfond Field House

           Thomas College announces the receipt of a $25,000 gift from the Hannaford Charitable Foundation for the construction of the Harold Alfond Field House.
           The gift puts the College at $3.9 million raised to date toward the goal of $4.6 million for the field house. George Spann, president of Thomas, said Hannaford’s generous gift signals growing support from the business community to ensure that the College can continue to attract and retain quality students.
           “Hannaford has a fine reputation in the state as a steward of the community. We are proud that they have chosen to support our students. The Harold Alfond Field House will make Thomas a decidedly stronger institution, better able to fulfill its mission of preparing students for success in their careers and personal lives and for leadership and service in their communities,” said Spann.
           In making the presentation, Hannaford Store Manager Jim Richard said, “The Hannaford Charitable Foundation is pleased to support Thomas’s capital campaign and the College’s commitment to preparing students for success in their personal and professional lives.”
           The facility is part of a five-year, $9.6 million campaign that also includes funds for scholarship endowment and annual operations. The Thomas Challenge: Guaranteeing the Future campaign is the largest in the College’s history and was launched in response to a strategic plan that calls for doubling the size of the undergraduate division from 500 to 1,000 students over a 10-year period. To date, more than $8.3 million has been pledge toward the $9.6 million goal.
           The 38,000 square-foot field house will be the centerpiece of Thomas’s 70-acre campus and will feature a three-court surface with synthetic flooring, jogging track, comprehensive fitness center, multipurpose aerobic exercise room, men’s and women’s locker rooms, training room, administrative offices and equipment storage space.
           The Hannaford Charitable Foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to improving the communities in which Hannaford Bros. Co. operates and in which its associates and its customers live.
