About Thomas Admissions Academics Student Life Athletics Support Thomas

"The friendships I've made at Thomas have been nothing short of amazing; in such an intimate, tight-knit community, you get to know other students quite well. These are the relationships that will last long after I graduate, some for a lifetime. I’m also really excited to think about ten years down the road and see what we’ve become, reflecting back on how our Thomas experience helped to shape and guide us."

The Importance of Tone in Business Writing at Next Business Breakfast

Thursday, December 13, at 7:30 a.m.

WATERVILLE, November 14 - The next Business Breakfast Series, presented by Thomas College in partnership with the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce, will focus on the importance of tone in business writing. The presentation will be held on Thursday, December 13.

The presentation, titled "The Importance of Tone in Business Writing" (Or, "How To Keep An E-mail From Blowing Up In Your Face"), will be presented by Bruce MacMillan. The presentation will concentrate on one of the essential tools for successful business writing - correct tone in e-mails - and how we can use it to motivate readers to do what we want, rather than ignoring tone and creating confused and angry readers (and thus potentially destroying business relationships).

MacMillan holds an M.S. in Journalism, is a member of the National Speakers Association, has been a business executive and consultant for over thirty five years, and is the owner of MacMillan Associates, Inc. of Phippsburg, Maine. MacMillan specializes in business writing skills training and has trained more than 20,000 people in over 80 client organizations, including GE, Pitney Bowes, CIGNA, Texaco, MEMIC and the University of Southern Maine.

The presentation will be held in the College's Student Center Atrium on campus located at 180 West River Road in Waterville. The public is invited to attend. The program begins at 7:30 a.m.

The cost per person is $13 for members with advanced registration, $15 for members at the door and $18 for non-members. Contact the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce at 873-3315 or info@midmainechamber.com for registration information.

The sponsors for the Business Breakfast Series are: Oxford Networks, TD Banknorth Insurance Agency, Inc., KFS, PFBF Certified Public Accountants, UniTel, Inc., and Weeks & Hutchins, LLC.
