Rothe is the October Artist
Thomas Features Irene Rothe as the Artist of the Month
WATERVILLE, Oct. 22 - Thomas College is featuring the original watercolors of Irene Rothe in its art gallery during the month of November.
The watercolors on display include landscapes created on Yupo watercolor paper, which is coated with plastic on both sides. Rothe says
the plastic coating does not absorb paint; therefore, "even though the results are not always predictable, they can be very exciting."
Rothe, of Auburn, was raised in Freeport, Illinois. She moved to Maine in 1972 and soon after began to study watercolor with the help
of local artists, Phyllis Woodsome and Charles Reid, whose work influenced her the most. The subject matter of all of Rothe's work is landscapes. She has a great
appreciation for the beauty of the ocean and the mountains. She has received various art show awards for her work.
Rothe's work is on display in the College's art gallery in its administration building at 180 West River Road in Waterville.
The gallery is open to the public Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
