Thomas College Trail Ready for Use Official Grand
Opening Planned for Spring 2008
WATERVILLE, Nov. 7 - The new nature trail at Thomas College
is officially ready for use. The 3,200 foot-long trail, made
possible by grants from the Maine Department of Conservation's
Recreational Trail Program and the Kennebec Messalonskee Trails,
was built by AmeriCorp volunteers supplied by the Maine
Conservation Corps with assistance by volunteers from Thomas
including members of the staff.
The trail begins behind Alumni Field,
winds through a wooded area with views of the Kennebec River
and Messalonskee Stream, and ends behind the Harold Alfond Athletic Center.
It will eventually connect to a separate trail at Waterville Junior High School.
While the trail is open to be walked,
improvements will continue to be made throughout the coming months.
Signage will be placed at both entrances, additional signs identifying flora
along the trail will be added and maps will be developed. An official grand
opening of the trail is planned for next spring.
The trail is open for use by students, faculty,
staff and the local community. For more information about the trail, please
