Thomas Professor Dr. Nelson Madore Publishes Book
"Voyages: A Maine Franco-American Reader"
WATERVILLE, Nov. 6
- Thomas College professor and former Waterville mayor, Dr. Nelson Madore,
is celebrating more than 10 years collecting essays, stories, poetry and art culminating in the publication of the book
"Voyages: A Maine Franco-American Reader". The book is a compilation
of Franco-American experiences and history, co-edited by Madore and University of Southern Maine Professor Dr. Barry Rodrigue.
Congressman Michael Michaud provides the preface for the book, which contains a wide range of perspectives, past and present, to
illustrate the Franco-American experience in Maine. Nearly seventy contributors cover topics such as an explanation of Quebec-Maine-Acadia frontier history,
genealogy, religion, literature, community affairs, politics, language and humor.
The book is a rich and engaging resource that will be enjoyed by many, including the President of France
- the book will be officially
presented to French President Nicolas Sarkozy and French Ambassador Pierre Vimont at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. on November 6th.
Madore, 64, who is now in his thirty-ninth year of teaching at Thomas, primarily teaches history, government, third world cultures, humanities, and graduate
level courses in management, but he has also dabbled in sociology and anthropology. He is the Student Senate and Judicial Board advisors in addition to being the alumni advisor for the Alpha Gamma Delta
fraternity and the Epsilon Kappa sorority. He served as Mayor of Waterville from 1999-2004.
A book signing will be held on campus after the first of the year.
"Voyages: A Maine Franco-American Reader" is available for sale in the Thomas College bookstore.
