Students Take Home Prestigious Awards
Kari Grant and Amity Ollis Take Top Senior Honor
WATERVILLE, April 27 — Kari Grant ’07 and Amity Ollis ’07 were selected for the College’s most prestigious award—the Thomas Award—during a recent ceremony.
Grant is student senate president who also served as her class president during her junior year. She’s an active student leader having served as an officer on the Campus-Activities Board, Student-Athletic-Advisory Board and a member of the Judicial Board. Grant is also a field-hockey player, orientation leader and student ambassador.
Ollis is the fund-raising chair for Phi Beta Lambda, former editor for the student newspaper, TC Voice, vice president of the Accounting Society, Alpha Chi secretary, student member of the New Hampshire and Maine Society of CPAs, founder, president and instructor of Thomas College’s Dance Club. The Thomas Award honors two seniors in baccalaureate degree programs. Nominees are selected on the basis of scholarship, leadership and service to the college and community.
The Collegiate Crest Award for Excellence in Leadership was presented to seven students. They are Jillian Bouley ’07, Jennifer Cliff ’08, Jennifer Higgins ’09, Nikki Irish ’07, Andrea Marier ’07, Michael Santo ’09 and Tyler Simpson ’08. The Collegiate Crest award honors upper-class students selected on the basis of scholarship, leadership and service to the college and community.
The Gold Key Award, for emerging leaders, was presented to Ashley Cust ’10, Mara Davis ’10, Melissa Gouin ’11, Nicole Grant ’10, Amy Luginbuhl ’10 and Carlos Peralta ’10. The Gold Key Award honors up to six first-year students who have demonstrated scholastic achievement and leadership qualities while at Thomas.
The Unsung Hero accolade was presented to Ashley Cust ’10 and Amber Cochran ’10. These students contributed significantly this spring to successful Campus Activities Board projects. Jennifer Cliff ’08 was selected as the recipient of the American Association of University Women Award, and Stephen Dombroski ’07 was presented the Davis Award.
Educational Program of the Year was tied between the Peer Advisors program “Love Fest” and the Art Club’s “2007 Art Show.” The programs are nominated for their excellence in educating the campus community. The Social Program of the Year was the Campus Activities Board’s “Deep Freeze Week.” The program was selected because it offered healthy opportunities for students to interact with others. The Community Service Program of the Year was the Education Club’s “Children’s Book Drive.” This program reached out to the Waterville and Thomas College communities with the intent of helping others.
