Thomas Features Karl Rau
as Artist of the Month

         WATERVILLE, Jan. 11—Thomas College is featuring the dried and pressed Maine flowers of Karl Rau, in its art gallery during the month of January.
         Rau, of South China, first learned the drying, pressing and framing process from some Japanese friends. All of the images he creates consist of Maine flowers, plants and various insects, particularly butterflies. The entire process, from growing the flowers to vacuum sealing the plants, is done at his home in South China.
         Rau’s work is on display in the College’s art gallery in its administration building at 180 West River Road in Waterville. The gallery is open to the public Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
