Thomas Presents Smart Marketing at Next Business Breakfast
Thursday, April 12, at 7:30 a.m.

WATERVILLE, Mar. 21— The next Business Breakfast Series, presented by Thomas College in partnership with the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce, will focus on smart marketing for small businesses. The presentation will be held on Thursday, April 12.

Judy Katzel, an accredited public relations professional and president of Burgess Advertising in Portland, will discuss how small businesses in Maine can best utilize advertising resources and make their advertising more competitive and successful.

Katzel believes businesses should use a new advertising campaign when the company experiences growth or if the business launches a new product or service. If businesses don’t take this approach, they risk losing out to their competitors, according to Katzel in a 2001 interview with Inc.com.

Founded in 1986, Burgess Advertising & Associates is a northern New England advertising, marketing and public relations agency. For 20 years, Burgess Advertising has worked with businesses such as Oakhurst Dairy, Amato’s, and EJ Prescott. The company has received numerous accolades, including the 2000 Eagle Feather Award from Maine Businesses for Social Responsibility; the 2003 Bronze for Package Design for the Daniel Green Shoe Company; the 2004 Golden Arrow for Citizenship award; and the American Lung Association of Maine award for the 2004 Trek Across Maine Campaign.

Katzel has been the president of Burgess Advertising since January 2006. Katzel joined the firm in 1994 as vice president of Account Services. In 2003, she was named the executive vice president of Burgess Advertising. Previously, Katzel worked for Saffitz Alpert & Associates in McLean, Va. She serves on the Maine Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Sports Health and Wellness, the President’s Advisory Council at Southern Maine Community College, and serves as treasurer on the New England Society for Healthcare Communications.

The Thomas presentation will be held in the Atrium of the Student Center on the College’s campus, located at 180 West River Road in Waterville. The public is invited to attend. The program begins at 7:30 a.m.

The cost per person is $13 for members with advanced registration, $15 for members at the door and $18 for non-members. Contact the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce at 873-3315 or info@midmainechamber.com for registration information.
