Musician John Rush to Perform on Campus
Tuesday, March 6, at 8 p.m.

WATERVILLE, March 1—Musician John Rush will perform at Thomas College on March 6 at 8 p.m. in the Atrium.

Rush takes his audience on a musical journey, singing and playing guitar, bass, harmonica, piano, saxophone, banjo, keyboard and percussion. Rush plays his own original music and the songs of other popular artists.

Rush is not just another singer/songwriter. The award-winning musician has impressed his audiences with his guitar work, his voice and his lyrics. He’s the recipient of the Campus Activities Magazine Entertainer of the Year and Campus Awards Musician of the Year.

Rush has a much larger sound than most solo musicians. Taking a unique approach, Rush performs with the help of a loop machine that allows him to record a guitar loop on the fly and then play lead, bass, harmonica, piano and percussion over it.

Rush beats on his guitar, plays bass lines and expressive guitar leads. This allows him to sound like an entire band.

“I do this all live,” he said. “People always ask me if this is prerecorded music, but it’s not. I think if you go hear live music it should be live. I rely on my own ability to perform; the technical effects are only there to enhance what I do.”

Originally from Huntsville, Ala., Rush first learned to play guitar at age 12. After playing in jazz and rock bands through high school, Rush went to Athens, Ga., on a classical guitar scholarship to the University of Georgia. When he was finished with college, Rush moved to Nashville, Tenn., where he quickly became a must-see show at local establishments before taking his show on the road.

Averaging more than 200 dates a year, Rush regularly performs at college campuses and the club circuit. He has a set list of more than 600 songs and over 150 different groups. Rush has been called a human IPod, because he can play more than 55 hours of music upon request.

Rush has released three CDs. His critically-acclaimed debut CD, They Don't Know My Name, features two tracks from the soundtrack to the film Autumn and Everything After. Rush’s second CD, Songs From The Road, is a compilation of live recordings. His third, and most recent CD, Always Touring, shows Rush’s talents as a songwriter, while highlighting his skills as a guitarist.
